In Spain information

What are some common challenges faced by expatriates working in Spain, and how can they adapt to the local work environment?

Expatriates working in Spain often encounter challenges such as language barriers, differences in workplace culture, and adapting to a more relaxed approach to time management. Building Spanish language skills, even at a conversational level, can greatly ease communication and foster relationships with colleagues. It’s also helpful to understand local workplace norms, such as valuing personal relationships and the importance of work-life balance. Joining professional networks and seeking mentorship from both local and international colleagues can smooth the transition and help with career advancement.

What are 'In Spain' jobs?

'In Spain' jobs refer to employment opportunities that are based within Spain, across various industries such as tourism, education, technology, healthcare, and more. These jobs could be available to both Spanish citizens and international workers, depending on visa and work permit requirements. Typical roles range from teaching English and hospitality work to positions in multinational companies. The job market in Spain can vary by region, with larger cities like Madrid and Barcelona offering more diverse opportunities. Understanding local language skills and labor laws is often important for those seeking work in Spain.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a professional in Spain, and why are they important?

To thrive as a professional in Spain, you generally need relevant educational credentials, language proficiency (especially Spanish), and industry-specific experience. Familiarity with tools like Microsoft Office, sector-specific software, and, in some cases, certifications such as PRL (Prevención de Riesgos Laborales) are commonly expected. Strong interpersonal skills, cultural adaptability, and effective communication help professionals excel in collaborative and diverse workplaces. These competencies ensure effective integration into the Spanish work environment, support compliance with local regulations, and enhance overall job performance.

What jobs can a foreigner get in Spain?

Foreigners can work in Spain in various sectors such as hospitality, agriculture, construction, and language teaching, often requiring a work permit or residence authorization. Jobs typically depend on language skills, qualifications, and visa status, with some roles available to those with specialized skills or certifications. It is important to comply with immigration laws and obtain the necessary work authorization before employment.

What jobs are in demand?

In Spain, in-demand jobs include healthcare professionals such as nurses and doctors, IT specialists like software developers and cybersecurity experts, and skilled trades such as electricians and plumbers. Tourism, hospitality, and language teaching also offer numerous opportunities due to the country's strong tourism industry and multilingual environment.

Can you live on $1000 a month?

Living on $1000 a month in Spain as a worker depends on the location and lifestyle; in some rural areas, it may cover basic expenses, but in major cities, it is generally insufficient for rent, food, and other costs. Budgeting and understanding local living costs are essential for assessing affordability for any job in Spain.

Job description

Do you have experience in Growth Marketing? Do you enjoy connecting marketing, sales and leadership to drive real business impact? Check this opportunity in our Madrid office!

Aon is in the business of better decisions
At Aon, we shape decisions for the better to protect and enrich the lives of people around the world. As an organization, we are united through trust as one inclusive team and we are passionate about helping our colleagues and clients succeed.

About the Role

We are looking for a Growth Marketing Manager to drive profitable growth for Aon’s Human Capital solutions (health, wealth, talent and workforce) in the Spanish market.

  • Design and execute datadriven marketing programs that acquire, expand and retain clients across key segments in Spain.
  • Translate global and regional Human Capital marketing strategies into locally relevant plans and campaigns, aligned with our Aon United ambition.
  • Advocate Spanish market needs and priorities with regional and global teams from the very beginning of new initiatives, influencing how centrally driven campaigns are shaped so they resonate with local audiences and are relevant for the local business.
  • Run integrated campaigns (digital, email, events/webinars, partnerships) in close partnership with sales and client leaders, focused on whitespace, strategic accounts and priority industries.
  • Lead measurement and optimization for Human Capital marketing in Spain, using data to inform “next best actions” and improve performance across the funnel.
  • Adapt global and regional content and thought leadership for Spanish audiences, and equip sales and consultants with effective enablement materials.
  • Collaborate with brand, digital, regional marketing and local business leaders to build a strong, consistent presence for Aon in Spain.

About You

You are a commercially minded, handson marketer at Manager level, equally comfortable with strategy, execution and stakeholder management. You bring:

  • Solid experience in B2B marketing, ideally in professional services, HR solutions, or related fields, with a strong understanding of the HR buyer landscape (CHRO, CPO, Total Rewards, Benefits, Talent, Finance).
  • A track record of designing and delivering integrated demandgeneration and accountbased marketing campaigns that drive pipeline and revenue.
  • Strong analytical skills: you can interpret funnel metrics, campaign performance and client/market data, and translate insights into clear actions.
  • Excellent collaboration and influencing skills, able to align local, regional and global stakeholders around shared plans and priorities without formal authority.
  • Proficiency with CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce, Dynamics or similar) and project management tools, plus high comfort using AIenabled tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Copilot) to increase productivity and quality.
  • Native Spanish speaker with full professional command of English (written and spoken), confident in daily interaction with regional and global colleagues in calls, meetings and forums.
  • A strong Aon United mindset: you think “one firm”, act as a connector across teams and geographies, and focus on delivering a consistent, highquality client experience.

What We Offer

In this Madridbased, hybrid role (3 days onsite, 2 days from home), you will have the opportunity to:

  • Shape how global and regional Human Capital strategies come to life in the Spanish market.
  • Work closely with senior business, product and client leaders across Spain, the region and globally.
  • Grow your career in a global firm, with exposure to crosssolution initiatives and best practices.

Plus, our agile environment allows you to manage your wellbeing and work/life balance, ensuring you can be your best self at Aon. Furthermore, all colleagues enjoy two “Global Wellbeing Days” each year, encouraging you to take time to focus on yourself. We offer a variety of working style solutions for our colleagues as well.
