Job description

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Job Title:            Tech 1

Reports to:        Branch Operations Manager

FLSA Status:      Non-exempt

Division:             HPC

Department:     Service

Union:                 ILWU

Locations:          Hilo

 

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general direction of the Service Manager and with little or no supervision, the Tech 1 will perform duties as assigned by management in the repair, maintenance, and rebuilding of equipment in the service shop or field, in a safe, efficient, and capable manner in the least amount of labor hours necessary and without rework. The Tech 1 is required to complete work within the time frame and standards established by HPC.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Trouble shoots mechanical problems in Caterpillar, allied products, and Ag & Turf and industrial products serviced by the service department.
  2. Makes warranty recommendations and prepares reports when performing warranty service jobs.
  3. Performs minor welding, fabrication, plumbing, and D.C. electric repairs.
  4. Attends training classes as directed and obtains passing grades.
  5. Reconditions or overhauls major components to manufacturer's specifications.
  6. Recommends actions to correct failures or problems.
  7. Adheres strictly to HPC safety, housekeeping, credit, and other rules, policies, and procedures.
  8. Maintains a favorable business relationship with customers, suppliers, and personnel from other HPC departments.
  9. Handles Equipment Condition Reporting.
  10. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing results as needed.

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  1. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Must have a valid Drivers License with a good driving record.
  3. Must have PC skills.
  4. Must be forklift certified or able to be certified within 60 days.
  5. Must own hand tools that are suitable to perform the work noted above.
  6. At least 5 years of experience preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  1. Walking: Moves about on foot, often through uneven terrain.
  2. Hands/arms: Operates equipment and hand and power tools.
  3. Handling: Seizes, helps, or works with hands.
  4. Lifting: Raises or lowers miscellaneous equipment parts and tools.
  5. Reaching: Extends hands and arms in any direction.
  6. Stooping: Bends body downward and forward by bending at knees or waist.
  7. Standing: Remains in standing position if required to perform various functions of the job.
  8. Climbing: In and out of equipment.
  9. Raising/Lowering: Goes up and down in man lifts.
  10. Vision: Reads work tickets and parts and service books and operates heavy equipment.
  11. Talking: Communicates by radio, phone, and in person.
  12. Hearing: Hears well enough to discern mechanical problems for safety in and around shop and construction sites and to receive communication by radio, phone, and in person.
  13. Sitting: Sits in equipment and vehicles for extended periods.
  14. Laying: Lies in prone position under vehicles and equipment for extended periods.
  15. Lifting: Lifts up to 60lbs. daily, frequent exertion.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL:          

  1. Noise: Works in conditions with constant or intermittent noise.
  2. Temp/Weather: Works outside and in a shop with variations of temperature and weather.
  3. Exposure: Subject to foul odors, fumes, and harsh substances.
