Systems Engineer (IAT Level II)
Location: Colorado Springs, Colorado or Huntsville, Alabama (onsite with flexibility; some travel between locations may be required)
Security Clearance: Active Secret clearance required

Salary Range: $100,000-$148000 (commensurate with experience)

Abel Personnel is hiring on behalf of our client for a Systems Engineer (IAT Level II) to support mission-critical defense programs in Colorado Springs, Colorado and Huntsville, Alabama.
This role focuses on designing and integrating automation and defensive software solutions to support advanced Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) systems. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience in systems architecture, software automation, and CI/CD pipeline development, as well as strong leadership and collaboration skills across multi-site, multi-discipline teams. Key Responsibilities • Design and document complex system and software architectures that integrate multiple technologies to meet program objectives. • Lead automation and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) initiatives to enhance software development and deployment efficiency. • Conduct system performance analysis, capacity planning, and optimization activities. • Maintain current expertise in emerging software technologies, design patterns, and systems engineering methodologies. • Support verification, validation, and automated testing of software components using repeatable, data-driven methods. • Develop detailed system models and architectural documentation using tools such as CAMEO or Enterprise Architect. • Collaborate with engineers across disciplines to implement integrated solutions that align with overall system architecture. • Apply Agile and Lean Development principles and mentor others in DevOps and automation best practices. • Ensure compliance with Department of Defense cybersecurity and IAT Level II certification requirements. Required Qualifications • Active Secret clearance (must be current and in good standing). • Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree with 3+ years of experience in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related field. • IAT Level II certification (CompTIA Security+, CCNA Security, or GSEC). • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing system automation and deployment architectures. • Proficiency in Linux, VMware, and Windows operating systems. • Hands-on experience with Git, Ansible, JIRA, Confluence, Microsoft Excel, and Visio. • Proven ability to lead technical teams and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders. Preferred Qualifications • VMware certification (VCP or higher). • Familiarity with the Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS) or similar defense programs. • Experience in STIG-compliant system automation and secure environments. • Background supporting DoD or cleared defense contractor operations.
