What is the difference between Hybrid Assistant Manager vs Retail Supervisor?

AspectHybrid Assistant ManagerRetail Supervisor
CredentialsTypically requires management experience, sometimes certifications in retail or businessUsually requires experience in retail, no formal certifications required
Work EnvironmentOversees multiple departments, manages staff, and handles operational tasksSupervises sales associates, manages daily store operations
Employer & Industry UsageCommon in retail chains, hospitality, and service industries with hybrid rolesPrimarily in retail stores, focusing on sales and customer service

The Hybrid Assistant Manager combines managerial responsibilities with hands-on operational tasks, often overseeing multiple departments. In contrast, a Retail Supervisor focuses mainly on supervising store staff and daily sales activities. While both roles require retail experience, the Hybrid Assistant Manager typically has broader responsibilities and may need management certifications, making it a more senior role within retail environments.

What is a Hybrid Assistant Manager?

A Hybrid Assistant Manager is a supervisory role that combines both in-person and remote management responsibilities. This position typically supports the main manager by overseeing daily operations, managing teams, and handling administrative tasks, both on-site and virtually. Hybrid Assistant Managers are expected to be flexible, adapt to changing work environments, and use technology to facilitate communication and workflow. They play a key role in maintaining productivity and ensuring team cohesion in hybrid work settings.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Hybrid Assistant Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Hybrid Assistant Manager, you need strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills, often supported by experience in management and a relevant degree. Familiarity with project management tools, scheduling software, and communication platforms is typically required. Exceptional interpersonal skills, adaptability, and the ability to manage both in-person and remote teams make candidates stand out. These abilities are crucial for ensuring smooth operations, effective team coordination, and achieving organizational goals in hybrid work environments.

How does the Hybrid Assistant Manager role typically balance on-site and remote responsibilities, and what challenges might arise from this structure?

As a Hybrid Assistant Manager, you can expect to split your time between working on-site and remotely, depending on business needs and team schedules. This structure requires strong organizational skills to ensure smooth communication and workflow across both environments. Common challenges include managing team engagement remotely, maintaining effective oversight of daily operations, and adapting quickly to changing priorities. Success in this role often relies on your ability to leverage digital collaboration tools and maintain clear, proactive communication with your team and upper management.

Job description

Hybrid Assistant Director of Operations / Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)About Us

We are aย BCBA-owned and operated ABA organizationย committed to delivering high-quality, ethical, and client-centered services. Our leadership structure is intentionally designed to allow BCBAs to focus on clinical excellence, client outcomes, and operational leadership rather than administrative burdens.

To support this mission:

  • A dedicatedย Parent Training Directorย provides parent and caregiver training services.

  • A dedicatedย Insurance and Authorization Specialistย manages authorizations, reauthorizations, claims, and insurance-related administrative processes.

  • BCBAs are empowered to focus on client care, staff development, quality assurance, and organizational operations.

Position Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and highly organized professional to serve in a dual-role capacity as bothย Assistant Director of Operations and Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) at our school-aged clinic.ย This leadership position combines operational oversight with a small clinical caseload, allowing the individual to influence organizational growth while remaining connected to client outcomes.

This role is ideal for a BCBA who enjoys leadership, process improvement, staff development, and operational management while maintaining direct clinical involvement.

Essential ResponsibilitiesAssistant Director of Operations
  • Partner with executive leadership to oversee daily operations and organizational initiatives.

  • Support recruitment, onboarding, staff retention, and employee engagement efforts.

  • Monitor operational workflows and implement systems that improve efficiency and service quality.

  • Assist with scheduling oversight, capacity management, and service expansion planning.

  • Support quality assurance and compliance initiatives.

  • Analyze operational metrics and develop action plans to improve performance.

  • Participate in strategic planning, growth initiatives, and program development.

  • Collaborate with clinical leadership to ensure exceptional client outcomes and staff support.

  • Promote a culture of accountability, professionalism, and excellence.

BCBA Clinical Responsibilities
  • Manage a small caseload sufficient to support billable hour expectations.

  • Conduct assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.

  • Provide supervision, mentorship, and support to RBTs and clinical staff.

  • Monitor client progress and make data-based treatment decisions.

  • Collaborate with families, schools, and other providers as needed.

  • Ensure all clinical documentation is completed accurately and in compliance with payer and regulatory requirements.

  • Support clinical quality initiatives and staff development.

What Makes This Role Different

Unlike many ABA organizations, this position is designed to allow BCBAs to focus on what they do best:

  • Clinical care and client outcomes

  • Staff mentorship and supervision

  • Operational leadership and organizational growth

The organization provides dedicated support for administrative functions that often pull BCBAs away from their expertise:

  • Parent training is managed by theย Parent Training Director.

  • Insurance authorizations, reauthorizations, and billing-related coordination are managed by theย Insurance and Authorization Specialist.

  • Administrative systems are designed to maximize BCBA efficiency and effectiveness.

QualificationsRequired
  • Current BCBA certification in good standing.

  • Master's degree in Behavior Analysis, Psychology, Education, or related field.

  • Minimum of 3 years of ABA clinical experience.

  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Experience supervising RBTs and clinical staff.

  • Strong commitment to ethical and evidence-based practice.

Preferred
  • Previous operational, management, or director-level experience.

  • Experience with program development and organizational growth.

  • Strong systems-thinking and problem-solving skills.

Schedule
  • Hybrid work environment.

  • Flexible scheduling.

  • Combination of operational leadership, remote work, and client-facing responsibilities.

  • Clinical caseload intentionally maintained at a manageable level to support operational leadership duties.

Benefits
  • Competitive compensation package.ย

  • Leadership development opportunities.

  • Continuing education and professional development support.

  • Paid time off and holidays.

  • Health, dental, and vision benefits (if applicable).

  • Advancement opportunities within a growing BCBA-led organization.

Reports To

Executive Director / Director of Operations

Our Philosophy

As a BCBA-owned and operated organization, we believe BCBAs create the greatest impact when they are empowered to focus on clients, staff development, and organizational leadershipโ€”not insurance paperwork or routine administrative tasks. Our support structure is intentionally designed to maximize clinical quality, operational excellence, and employee satisfaction.
