Driver

LAKE TRANSIT SERVICES 828 - LOWER LAKE, CA 95457

Salary Range $17.50 - $21.50 Hourly Position Type Full-Time/Part-Time Category Transportation

Summary: Operates bus, transports passengers in a safe and timely and courteous manner, communicates with and assist passengers by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Reports to work on time, as required.
  • Work irregular hours and days, overtime, weekends, holidays, variable shifts, and evenings.
  • Work to a very exact time schedule.
  • Wear a uniform and comply with neat grooming and personal hygiene standards.
  • Drive a vehicle in traffic continuously and safely between six and eight hours a day.
  • Deal with the public effectively.
  • Be courteous, friendly and helpful toward all passengers and the public in general.
  • Work as a cooperative team member with fellow employees and supervisors.
  • Must not deviate from route at any time unless advised by a Supervisor.
  • Must keep interior of the bus clean.
  • Must complete a thorough Pre-Trip Inspection each day.
  • Never personally handle fare.

Qualifications

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  1. Current Valid Commercial Drivers License.
  2. VTT (verification for Transit Training)
  3. Passenger endorsement

Other Position Requirements

  • Must have a safe driving record: No more than two (2) Minor violations in the past thirty-six (36) months; No more than one (1) chargeable accidents in the past thirty-six (36) months; no Major violation in the past thirty-six (36) months.
  • Must have never failed or refused to take a drug and/or alcohol test, without satisfactorily completing an FTA-approved substance abuse program.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English sufficiently to understand street signs, maps, i.e. Thomas Guide, traffic signs and be able to satisfactorily complete reports and forms.
  • Must satisfactorily complete and maintain the following: Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) assessment, pre-employment drug/alcohol tests, pre-employment DMV physical, background investigation, acquire DM certifications: VTT as required.
  • Sitting for long periods of time from 2, 4, 8 or possibly 10 hours a day, during your shift while driving a bus.
  • Releasing a hand brake, turning the steering wheel, getting into and out of the drivers seat, wearing a seatbelt, assisting wheelchair passengers boarding and un-boarding a bus, securing wheelchair using a 4-point system.
  • Must abide by all company safety rules and guidelines.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
