Job description

Safety and Training Manager

Transdev in San Rafael, CA is hiring a Safety and Training Manager.In this position, you will take ownership and manage the location’s loss control functions, including: screen job applicants in accordance with company policy and client contract; oversee and conduct safety education/training for all employees; and manage accident prevention, loss control and related regulatory compliance.

•Competitive compensation package of minimum $70,000 – maximum $88,600 / Exempt

•Vacation: One (1) week during first year of employment up to four (4) weeks per year after ten (10) years.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides direction, leadership and support to the day-to-day operation of the system to ensure safety and security of the service within corporate policy and local protocols.
  • Develop and administer local safety programs, working with General Manager as necessary.
  • Directly manage the development and promotion of safety policies and procedures, including taking preventative action to mitigate risk.
  • Monitor activities and make recommendations to help limit loss.
  • Respond to and investigate accidents/incidents, capturing all available information required to make a preventability determination and complete a root cause analysis, including but not limited to statements of involved persons and witnesses, photographic documentation of accident/incident scene, written reports, video and audio recordings, and GPS data.
  • Strictly adhere to timelines and due dates, including notifications of key personnel and data entry/uploads into company safety reporting systems.
  • Conduct evaluations and inspections for risk of potential loss.
  • Coordinate with corporate support teams and contracted third parties in the administration of workers compensation, general liability and vehicle liability insurance as it affects safety and loss control.
  • Assure that safety inspections are properly scheduled, carried out, monitored, acted upon and documented.
  • Coordinate and ensure compliance with the substance abuse testing program using Federal and Company standards.
  • Maintain drug & alcohol, driver qualification and other confidential files pertaining to training, safety and loss matters.
  • Coordinate and facilitate new safety training programs as needed based on risk assessment.
  • Conduct operator and other new-hire classroom instruction, including managing the qualifications of other training personnel.
  • Develop and ensure communication of hourly safety messages from dispatch to operators, with an emphasis on correcting current unsafe behavior trends.
  • Ensure all employees attend and participate in monthly safety meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Compliance with DOT regulations (49 CFR Parts 40 and 655)
  • High School diploma or equivalent, such as GED, required.
  • Minimum of three years’ progressive experience in training or safety, 2 of which were in a supervisory position.
  • Possess, or within 120 days obtain and maintain, a California class C commercial driver’s license.
  • Ability to obtain certification in accordance with California Verification of Transit Training (VTT) and General Public Paratransit Vehicle (GPPV) driver programs and rules.
  • Understand the full suite of Marin Access programs.
  • Understand requirements of the ADA related to public transit.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; communicate effectively and clearly over the telephone in a professional and pleasant tone.
  • Utilize computer software, including Microsoft Office, and possess proficient computer skills.
  • Basic mathematical skills.
  • Travel requirement (as a percent): <5% for occasional meetings.

The essential functions of this position require the ability to:

  • Ability to work shifts or flexible work schedules indoors and outdoors.
  • Performs physical activities that require considerable use of the arms, repetitive hand-wrist motion, and legs and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
  • Subject to long periods of sitting, standing, typing, or looking at a computer screen.
  • Must maintain medical certificate required to maintain commercial driver’s license.
