What is hourly bookkeeping?

Hourly bookkeeping refers to the practice of hiring a bookkeeper who charges by the hour to manage and record a company's financial transactions. This can include tasks such as reconciling bank statements, processing invoices, managing payroll, and preparing basic financial reports. Paying by the hour is a flexible option for businesses that need bookkeeping services on an as-needed basis or have fluctuating workloads. It allows companies to control costs and only pay for the time spent on actual bookkeeping work.

To thrive as an Hourly Bookkeeper, you need solid knowledge of accounting principles, accuracy in data entry, and experience with bookkeeping tasks, usually supported by a relevant certification or coursework. Familiarity with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, or Microsoft Excel is typically required. These skills ensure accurate financial records, timely reporting, and trustworthy service, which are crucial for supporting business operations.

What are the most common challenges hourly bookkeepers face when managing multiple clients?
