Are you ready to start the next chapter of your life with an actual career instead of just a job? Healing Hands Animal Hospital has an incredible opportunity for a Veterinary Kennel Technician. This friendly and energetic clinic is working to keep our furry companions healthy and well cared for.
A veterinary kennel technician is responsible for the daily care of animals in a veterinary clinic or boarding facility, including feeding, walking, cleaning kennels, monitoring health, and providing enrichment activities, while adhering to strict sanitation protocols and reporting any concerns to veterinary staff regarding animal health or behavior.
Key responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
  • Animal Care:
    • Feeding animals according to a set schedule and dietary needs
    • Walking and exercising animals in designated areas
    • Providing enrichment activities like toys and playtime
    • Monitoring animal health, observing for signs of illness or distress and reporting to veterinary staff
  • Kennel and Hospital Care:
    • Cleaning and disinfecting animal cages, runs, and play areas regularly
    • Washing and sanitizing food and water bowls
    • Changing bedding and maintaining clean laundry
    • Maintaining overall cleanliness of the kennel facility
    • Maintaining overall cleanliness of the hospital along with other staff members
    • Unpacking daily inventory boxes and stocking low inventory throughout the hospital
    • Stocking, organizing, and cleaning items in storage and storage areas
  • Animal Handling:
    • Safely restraining animals for examinations or procedures as needed
    • Assisting with intake and discharge of animals
    • Properly identifying animals and ensuring accurate record keeping
    Required Skills and Qualifications:
    • Animal handling experience: Comfort and confidence in working with a variety of animals, including dogs and cats of different sizes and temperaments, goats, pigs, and chickens
    • Attention to detail: Ability to follow cleaning protocols and accurately monitor animal health
    • Physical ability: Capability to lift and move animals up to 50lbs, walk for extended periods, and perform repetitive cleaning tasks
    • Communication skills: Effective communication with clients, veterinary staff, and other team members
    • Basic understanding of animal behavior and health concerns
    • Reliable transportation
    • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments
    • Availablility to work weekends, alternating
