Job description

SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Social Work Manager, the Social Worker Supervisor performs all the functions of a Social Worker LSW and also functions in a supervisory, administrative and program management capacity within the Department of Social Work. RESPONSIBILITIES: PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1.Performs all duties of the Social Worker (LSW) and demonstrates expertise in clinical specialty, e.g. chronic illness, trauma, critical care, psychiatric illness. 2.Provides clinical supervision and work direction to social work staff, social work interns and others as assigned. Coordinates work assignment of employeesnterns and ensures adequate coverage for clinical area of responsibility. Communicates policy and procedures to area personnel. Provides input on hiring, employee work performance and evaluations. May participate in counseling of supervisees around performance issues. 3.Participates in developing schedules, coverage plans and employee work schedules and in coordinating patient access to services and programs by maintaining master schedules. For RIH, TMH and Newport Only: Is available 24/7 for clinical and/or scheduling issues. 4.Maintains records, prepares reports and composes correspondence relative to supervisory administrative and/or program management functions. 5.From a program development or administrative perspective provides social work consultation within and outside the hospital. 6.Participates in departmental studies, grants, projects, committees and quality assurance activities. 7.Maintains and enhances professional expertise through educational activities. 8.Adheres to Brown University Health, Hospital and departmental policies and procedures to maintain a safe environment of care and be in compliance with all laws, regulations and standards. Is a leader in demonstrating the Brown University Health CARE values. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: BASIC KNOWLEDGE: Master’s Degree in Social Work from an accredited graduate school. Current LICSW from State of Rhode Island required. Administrative and supervisory skills necessary to address these functions in the department or assigned clinical area. Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment. Interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain effective working relationships and to supervise and coordinate social work activities in the clinical area. Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and to develop or administer social work services with consideration of stages of human development and cultural patterns. Analytical skills necessary to evaluate patients, programs and procedures. EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 4 years of clinical experience preferably in a health or mental health setting with an emphasis on populations to be served in the assigned area. Experience in supervision, program development or administration required. For Bradley Hospital Only: Eligibility for privileging in 3 areas of practice. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Works in a normal office environment with exposure to patient care. INDEPENDENT ACTION: Performs independently within the department’s policies and practices. Refers specific complex problems to the manager when clarification of departmental policies and procedures are required. Under the general supervision of the Manager, may develop programs, coverage plans, and schedules. In clinical area of responsibility may develop or contribute to creation of policies, procedures and standards of care related to social work or program functions. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Will supervise social work staff, social work interns and others as assigned as appropriate, an average of 10, for clinical service area.

$74,672.00-$123,198.40
