What is a HEOR analyst?

HEOR analysts, or Health Economics and Outcomes Research analysts, are professionals who evaluate the economic impact and health outcomes of medical treatments, interventions, and healthcare policies. They use data analysis, statistical modeling, and literature reviews to assess the value, cost-effectiveness, and real-world impact of healthcare products and services. Their work helps inform healthcare decision-makers, such as providers, payers, and regulatory agencies, to ensure that resources are used efficiently and patients receive effective care. HEOR analysts often collaborate with pharmaceutical companies, health insurers, and government agencies.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a HEOR analyst?

To thrive as a HEOR Analyst, you need a strong background in health economics, epidemiology, and data analysis, typically supported by a degree in public health, health economics, or a related field. Familiarity with statistical software (such as SAS, R, or Stata), health outcomes modeling, and real-world evidence databases is commonly required. Excellent communication, critical thinking, and project management skills help you effectively interpret data and convey insights to stakeholders. These skills are crucial for providing actionable evidence that supports healthcare decision-making and market access strategies.
