Job Description

The Head of Corporate Strategy is responsible for shaping and driving the long-term strategic direction of Takeda, ensuring that scientific innovation, commercial excellence, and disciplined investment decisions translate into meaningful patient impact.

Reporting to the Head of Strategy & Portfolio Development, this role partners closely with the CEO, Takeda Executive Team, and Board of Directors to define enterprise priorities, allocate capital effectively, and position the company for sustainable growth and competitive advantage in a rapidly evolving global healthcare landscape.

The role will lead enterprise strategy development, portfolio prioritization, strategic planning, and advise on high-impact initiatives including M&A, partnerships, and market expansion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of the company's long-term corporate strategy across all therapeutic areas and geographies
  • Translate strategy into actionable, measurable plans aligned with financial and operational goals
  • Advise on annual and multi-year strategic planning processes across business units and therapeutic areas
  • Advise the CEO and Executive Team on critical strategic decisions and trade-offs
  • Drive ongoing portfolio prioritization across R&D, commercial, and lifecycle management investments
  • Partner with R&D and Commercial leadership to optimize pipeline value and risk balance
  • Ensure business development and capital allocation decisions are aligned to long-term enterprise value creation and sustainable growth
  • Monitor and integrate global biopharma trends, competitive dynamics, and policy/regulatory developments into strategic implications and recommendations for leadership
  • Anticipate disruptions (e.g., technology, pricing pressures, market access shifts) and position the organization's priorities and resources proactively mitigate risk/seize opportunities

Qualifications & Capabilities

  • 15+ years of experience in strategy & consulting within the pharmaceutical/biotech industry
  • Proven and progressive track record across corporate strategy, portfolio management, and/or business development
  • Experience leading in a global, matrixed organization
  • BA/BS degree required (MBA, PhD, MD, or equivalent strongly preferred)
  • Ability to synthesize complex data into clear strategic direction
  • Credibility and presence to appropriately advise and challenge executive leadership and the Board
  • Deep understanding of valuation, capital allocation, and ROI-driven decision-making
  • Strong grasp of global biopharma trends, regulatory environments, and innovation dynamics
  • Ability to translate strategy into measurable outcomes and drive implementation, appropriately leveraging AI and technology to accelerate achievement of results
  • Skilled at leading and influencing across functions, cultures, and geographies
  • Based in Cambridge, MA, hybrid, expected travel: ~15% globally

U.S. Base Salary Range:

$259,000.00 - $407,000.00


The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.

U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/ or long-term incentives. U.S. based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. U.S. based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendar year, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
