Job description

Production Manager, Joe’s Pub

Full-time, Exempt

The Production Manager reports to the Director of Joe’s Pub and is responsible for communicating with artists and advancing all elements of our 600+ annual shows. They are responsible for scheduling and supervising performance coordinator staff, and the Production Manager works closely with the Head Audio Engineer and Head Lighting Designer to coordinate technical needs, and artist-facing documents.

Responsibilities:

Production Management and Artist Communication

  • Schedule sound checks and manage daily stage schedule& dressing room needs
  • Communicate with artists to ensure all technical elements are properly advanced
  • Collaborate with Joe’s Pub team to update and maintain artist-facing information: Artist Central Spreadsheets and Artist Central Document formula integration
  • Oversee piano usage to communicate end of night procedures and tuning schedule
  • Update and distribute daily One Sheet Show Rundowns
  • Coordinate and distribute purchased recordings when applicable

Crew Leadership & Departmental Protocols

  • Hire, supervise, train, and schedule a staff of 3-5 Performance Coordinators
  • Coordinate with Head Lighting Designer to oversee and approve all incoming scenic elements, large props, and additions to the grid

Technical/Safety and Maintenance

  • Ensure safe working conditions for Joe’s Pub and Performance Coordinators
  • Ensure core staff meets and maintains appropriate Fire Guard certifications
  • Assist with budget tracking, payroll, and materials management related to Artist Relations and Performance Coordination

Competencies & Skills:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of live music and theater production strategies and processes
  • Key understanding of backline terminology and live music equipment
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects with competing and dynamic schedules
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience with complex spreadsheets and formulas in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Joe’s Pub and Public Theater mission, strategies, and programming
  • Deep commitment and dedication to prioritize and develop The Public’s Anti-Racism and Cultural Transformation Plan.
  • Excellent social skills and ability to work as part of a team
  • Fiscal management/budgeting skills

  • Minimum five years of professional experience in theatrical or music production, preferably in a management position

Compensation & Benefits
The salary for this position is $75,000 annually, commensurate with experience. This position is available immediately. This is a full-time, Exempt position in accordance with the Fair Labor and Standards Act.
