Job description

Travel Plaza Transportation, LLC (TPT) has evolved into one of Hawaii's largest bus operators, with an extensive fleet of commercial vehicles, and a broad suite of transportation service offerings on Oahu. In 2019, we introduced a new fleet of vehicles, including electric buses. TPT is the first private transportation company to acquire electric buses in support of our island community and the rest of the global community to achieve environmental sustainability.

Primary Responsibilities: Manage and coordinate activities involving operations and all sales activities to obtain optimum efficiency and economy of operations, and maximize profits by performing the following duties personally or through staff.

Responsible for All Sales-related Directives
  • Follow up on future bookings from all channels, including e-mail, phone, and fax from JTB Hawaii Travel, LLC, other transportation companies, and FIT customers.

  • Correspond with customers regarding their inquiries and reservation requests. Handle the process from quote to collection.

  • Visit business partners to increase sales and exchange information.

Oversee Department Staff
  • Plan and discuss department goals, enforce organizational policies, objectives, and programs for the department.

  • Monitor staff attendance, supervise, train, counsel, coach and motivate staff in the execution of their job responsibilities to achieve department goals. Evaluate job performance and reward or discipline staff when necessary.

  • Responsible for carrying out personnel action such as interviewing, hiring, training, handle any disciplinary action, plan, assign, and direct work, and address issues and concerns, as required.

  • Contact and communicate with Human Resources on any employee-related issues that may require immediate attention.

Manage Organization Profit and Loss
  • Track results of sales, costs, and expenses in order to maintain budgeted directives, and maintain company's profitability.

  • Study, forecast and analyze market to conceive and conduct future direction and strategies. Monitor and analyze cost and selling price data to maintain company's profitability.

  • Propose and implement cost and expense reduction measures to increase company revenue.

Responsible for All Customer Service Issues.
  • Visit airport or other locations to observe our driving team in the handling with valuable customers/passengers, and advise Driver management team on any possible customer service skill improvement.

  • Obtain feedback/comments received from JTB customers or other customers, and translate into English to share with Driver team to improve customer service level.

Secondary Functions:
  1. Assist other departments or sections, as required.
  2. Perform duties for Company events, or special events such as Honolulu Marathon, Honolulu Festival, etc.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  1. Bachelors' degree
  2. Possess at least five (5) - seven (7) years of experience and at least five (5) of managerial experience. Able to speak, read and write in both English and Japanese.
  3. Possess good communication skills in speaking, reading and writing in both English and Japanese.
  4. Able to work independently and cooperatively with others, which includes employees, business partners, and customers in a professional and positive manner.
  5. Possess strong knowledge of Japanese culture and customs, and tour characteristics.
  6. Possess working knowledge of Hawaii's tourism infrastructures, and Japanese tour characteristics.
  7. Possess working knowledge of tour arrangement, basic business concepts and procedures, reservations concepts and procedures, and accounting procedures.
  8. Possess working knowledge of computers and other office productivity machinery, such as a copier, printer, multi-line telephone system, cellular phone, facsimile machine, other standard office equipment and email.
  9. Possess valid drivers' license with clean driving history.

Working Conditions:
Working Hours
Normal business hours: 8:00 am - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday, weekends and holidays, as deemed necessary.
Environmental Conditions:
Subject to varying weather conditions, including but not limited to, an air conditioned office, noise, pollution, dust, vehicle exhaust and fumes.
