CCPD Student Assistant

Job Description:

General Office
Communicate with staff, faculty, employers, alumni, and students via phone, email, Teams, and Face to Face interactions.
Answer all incoming phone calls, assisting and directing callers as appropriate and delivering messages.
Assist CCPD career consultants and counselors with special student-centered topics and projects.
Monitor and maintain the Student Assistant email account, responding accordingly.
Assist the Office Manager with on-campus errands, proctoring exams, and miscellaneous departmental tasks.

Handshake Guidance

  • Provide guidance to students and alumni related to Handshake, including scheduling appointments, registering for events, uploading resumes, applying for opportunities, and other Handshake functions, including the use of Handshake desktop and mobile features.
  • Look-up and/or enter information into Handshake.
  • Provide guidance to employers via phone and email related to Handshake, including how to connect with Mercer University for campus recruiting, how to post opportunities and events, and how to communicate with students/alumni via the platform.

    Ambassador and Advocate

    • Learn all about the services and events offered by the CCPD and be a strong motivational voice in the campus community regarding career development, the CCPD, and Handshake.
    • Actively and consistently promote services and events to the campus community (word of mouth, email, group texts, social media, etc.).
    • Distribute and remove event flyers, posters, signage around campus.
    • Actively and consistently provide feedback to the CCPD team about student needs and happenings.

    Campus Events

    • Assist CCPD staff members with the behind-the-scenes preparation required for successful campus recruiting and career education events (e.g. workshops, webinars, information sessions, employer panels, career expos and fairs, campus interviews, etc.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS:

    • Must have an active Handshake account and a basic understanding of the platform.
    • Must have excellent communication skills, strong work ethic, and a desire to model the way for students' career development.
    • Must be comfortable and poised speaking with and working with people.
    • Must be technology savvy, including desktop and mobile devices
    • Ability to walk around or maneuver across campus and lift/move office items as needed. (<20 lbs.)

    JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Must be approved for FWS (Federal Work Study) through the Office of Student Employment. FWS eligibility will be verified prior to the offer of employment.
