The Taiwan Education and Research Program (TERP) was established in 2004 to promote and support academic and policy-related study and research of Taiwan. TERP supports the Taiwan Resource Center at the GW Gelman Library and sponsors a variety of Taiwan-focused public programs and professional seminars, including the Taiwan Humanities Lecture Series and the Strait Talk GW conflict engagement symposium. TERP also administers several student career development opportunities, including language and research scholarships to support travel to Taiwan and the Taiwan Studies Research Fellows Program for GW students. TERP operates under the Sigur Center at the Elliott School of International Affairs and collaborates with other GW departments to to bring Taiwan-related programming to the GW campus.
Position Specific Summary
Project Assistants work closely with the TERP Co-Directors and assist the Program Coordinator in a variety of tasks, while building up professional experience based on interest and skill. The Project Assistant will support TERP's outreach programming and activities, such as but not limited to: supporting the preparation, advertisement, execution, and documentation of hybrid, in-person, and virtual events; managing and uploading content on TERP-related websites and social media platforms (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn); using Canva and other tools to generate and circulate TERP-related informational graphics; and tracking TERP programming information for reporting obligations.
While completing duties, the Project Assistant will be asked to sit at the front desk of the 503 Suite where they will greet visitors to the Suite, direct visitors to faculty/staff offices, and distribute incoming mail to faculty/staff mailboxes. Additional tasks may be assigned based on TERP's needs. The Project Assistant may be assigned various TERP tasks and may be asked to support activities of the Sigur Center for Asian Studies, the GW Institute for Korean Studies, and other Asia-related centers and institutes in the 503 Suite as needed.
Hours: Approximately 10 per week (dependent on department needs)
Standard Position Description
The student will assist in the administrative functions of special projects. Tasks may include:assist with project or program development and maintenance, perform administrative tasks, assist in data collection and data entry, attend and assist in the scheduling of meetings, provide support for events related to the project/program. Special projects or other duties may be assigned related to specific departmental needs.
Professional Outcomes Critical Thinking, Communication, Teamwork, Professionalism Required Qualifications
This is an entry level position, little to no experience required, all training will be provided (Students working in an instructional capacity should be very familiar with the subject area in which they are working).
Preferred Qualifications
Some experience in webinar/event management, graphic design software (Canva), social media marketing, and email marketing (EMMA) and/or an enthusiasm to learn are greatly valued. An academic or professional interest in Taiwan is highly desired
