Can you picture yourself here? Pay range $20-$25/hr based on experience.

Here’s what you’d do:

The Grounds Person Tree Care assists in the trimming and removal of trees, clearing, chipping and disposal of tree debris. Grounds Person I (G-1):  Entry level position; no prior experience or training required.

You’d be responsible for:

The primary function of this position is to work as a member of a tree crew which includes varying numbers of grounds workers, climbers, and crew leaders. A Grounds Person work as part of an effective tree care team and assists and supports the crew leader and climber in a variety of ways. 

  • Performs tree care activities that maintain safe and healthy trees for our clients. 
  • Responsible for daily equipment inspection and maintenance. 
  • Sets up safety items including positioning cones and signs and roping or taping off crew work areas.
  • Hands tools to the climber and receives tools from the climber using a rope to hoist them up into the tree.
  • Gathers branches into piles, transports to the chipper, feeds them into the chipper and unload tree trunks and chips at the appropriate facility.
  • Ensures that all operations, job sites and employees are safe and that the general public which might come into contact with the area will be safe.
  • Supports other team members in tree care activities and works as part of a team.
  • Communicates effectively with other crew members and the public. 

Grounds Person I (G-1) is an entry level position. Team members at the G-1 level will be taught all of the necessary skills to perform basic tree care operations on the ground, which include:

  • Arboricultural fundamentals: G-1 can perform basic tree care operations on the ground. 
  • Equipment operation: G-1 has introductory skills in the safe operation of powered equipment such as chippers, trucks, and blowers.
  • Tools: G-1 can effectively use hand tools such as a hand saws, pole pruners, rakes, and shovels to perform tree care tasks.
  • PPE: G-1 uses task specific Personal Protective Equipment according to industry standards and company protocols.
  • Jobsite Management: G-1 is responsible for keeping a jobsite clean and organized. A G-1 effectively implements plans to control vehicular and pedestrian traffic on the jobsite. The G-1 maintains a protected work zone.

 You might be a good fit if you have:

  • Prior tree grounds experience (highly desired)
  • Able to successfully follow directions and established procedures related to roping and rigging, maintenance of equipment, adjustments to equipment, and reporting malfunctioning equipment.
  • Ability to perform mathematical operations (add, subtract, multiply and divide) using weight measurement, volume, and distance. Ability to calculate or estimate weight, volume and distance related to arboricultural field operations.
  • Apply critical thinking skills to understand and carry-out instructions. Perform standardized tasks with occasional variables encountered. 
  • Effective communication skills. 
  • Communicate using hand signals with climbers to ensure safety and to perform work within acceptable standards.
  • Communicate verbally with the general public to direct them safely around the work area.

Compensation Pay Range:

$20-$25

BrightView offers a suite or health, wellness, and financial benefits to full-time team members.
