Job description

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to support payroll operations on a part-time basis (30 hours per week). The ideal candidate has public sector or government payroll experience in California and is highly familiar with CalPERS, Deferred Compensation plans, and Paychex payroll processing.

Responsibilities
  • Process payroll accurately and on schedule using Paychex
  • Maintain employee payroll records, deductions, and earnings
  • Administer CalPERS reporting and retirement contributions
  • Manage Deferred Compensation deductions and reporting
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and California payroll regulations
  • Prepare payroll reports, reconciliations, and year-end processing (W-2s)
  • Respond to employee payroll inquiries
  • Support HR and Finance with payroll-related updates and audits
Qualifications
  • 3+ years payroll experience, preferably in California public sector/government
  • Experience with Paychex payroll system
  • Working knowledge of CalPERS and Deferred Compensation plans
  • Strong understanding of California payroll laws and compliance
  • High attention to detail and ability to meet strict deadlines
Schedule
  • Part-time, 30 hours per week
  • $30-$40 Hourly depending on Experience
