Job description

job summary:

The Embedded Software Test Engineer is a hands-on, highly technical role responsible for creating, executing, and automating software-level unit and integration verification suites for safety-critical embedded systems. Working on advanced precision electromechanical medical systems powered by ARM architecture microcontrollers, this engineer will focus strictly on verifying source code quality, module logic, and requirements coverage running via PC stubs. This role requires an engineer who writes robust automated test code and stubs-not a QA device/hardware tester.

location: St. Petersburg, Florida
job type: Contract
salary: $59 - 63 per hour
work hours: 8am to 5pm
education: Bachelors
responsibilities:

Design, build, and execute automated unit, integration, and white-box test suites at the code level for complex electromechanical control systems.

Utilize automated test frameworks (VectorCAST, Google Test, or CppUnit) to build module stubs and run software-specific verification in PC environments.

Perform static code analysis to identify runtime defects, memory leaks, and logic flaws prior to hardware integration.

Derive test cases directly from functional and software requirements, ensuring full trace matrix coverage across the software development lifecycle.

Develop custom Python scripts to automate execution pipelines, test harnesses, and report generation.

Collaborate with cross-functional software development teams in an Agile environment using lifecycle tools like Jira or Azure DevOps.

Drive line-by-line structural code coverage analysis (Statement, Branch, MC/DC) to satisfy strict regulatory requirements.

qualifications:

Required Qualifications

Experience: 10+ years of hands-on experience in embedded software development and automated software testing (flexible for exceptional domain experts).

Core Languages: Advanced proficiency in C, C++, and Python for test automation and scripting.

Automation Frameworks: Strong working experience with VectorCAST, Google Test, or CppUnit.

Methodology: Deep understanding of the V-Model lifecycle, white-box testing, and line-by-line structural coverage principles.

Tooling: Familiarity with Git and Application Lifecycle Management tools (Jira, Azure DevOps).

Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.

Work Model: On-site presence in St. Petersburg, FL (minimum 3 days/week hybrid or 100% on-site).

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in regulated industries following strict SDLC standards (Automotive/ISO 26262, Aerospace/DO-178, or Medical Devices/IEC 62304).

Hands-on experience with ARM-based 8, 16, or 32-bit microcontroller architectures.

Strong communication skills with a track record of driving software quality in small, high-impact teams.
