Job description

Company Description
CapTech is an award-winning consulting firm that collaborates with clients to achieve what's possible through the power of technology. At CapTech, we're passionate about the work we do and the results we achieve for our clients. From the outset, our founders shared a collective passion to create a consultancy centered on strong relationships that would stand the test of time. Today we work alongside clients that include Fortune 100 companies, mid-sized enterprises, and government agencies, a list that spans across the country.
Job Description
We are seeking a mid-level Test Automation Engineer to join our Quality Engineering practice. In this role you will design, build, and maintain automated test suites for client engagements spanning web, mobile, and API-driven systems. You will work as an embedded member of cross-functional delivery teams, partnering with developers, business analysts, and client stakeholders to make quality a continuous, measurable part of the software delivery lifecycle rather than a final gate.
Because this is a consulting role, the technology stack, industry, and team culture will change from project to project. Success depends as much on adaptability and client communication as on technical depth. The ideal candidate is comfortable joining an engagement mid-stream, assessing the existing testing landscape, and recommending a pragmatic automation approach that delivers value within the engagement timeline.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain automated functional, regression, and integration test suites for web, mobile, and API layers.
  • Build and extend reusable test frameworks using page object, data-driven, and behavior-driven patterns that other engineers can adopt quickly.
  • Integrate automated tests into continuous integration and delivery pipelines so that every build produces meaningful quality signal.
  • Collaborate with product owners and business analysts to translate acceptance criteria into clear, traceable test scenarios.
  • Triage failing tests, isolate root causes, and distinguish product defects from test instability or environment issues.
  • Contribute to performance, accessibility, and security testing efforts in partnership with specialist teams.
  • Define and report quality metrics such as coverage, defect escape rate, and pipeline stability to both technical teams and client leadership.
  • Mentor junior engineers and client team members on automation practices, code review standards, and test design.
  • Participate in agile ceremonies, estimation, and sprint planning, advocating for testability in every story.

Qualifications
Required Qualification:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Three to six years of professional experience in software quality engineering, with at least two years focused on test automation.
  • Proficiency in at least one object-oriented or scripting language used for automation, such as Java, JavaScript or TypeScript, Python, or C#.
  • Hands-on experience with at least one modern UI automation tool such as Selenium WebDriver, Playwright, or Cypress.
  • Working knowledge of API testing, including REST services, authentication patterns, and contract or schema validation.
  • Experience integrating automated suites into a CI/CD pipeline and working comfortably with Git-based version control.
  • Solid understanding of agile delivery, the software development lifecycle, and defect management workflows.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain testing decisions to non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior consulting or client-facing delivery experience.
  • Experience with mobile automation using Appium, XCUITest, or Espresso.
  • Familiarity with performance testing tools such as JMeter, k6, or Gatling.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) and containerized test execution with Docker or Kubernetes.
  • Experience with accessibility testing standards such as WCAG 2.1, or with security testing fundamentals.
  • Relevant certifications such as ISTQB Advanced Level Test Automation Engineer or a cloud provider associate certification.

Core Technical Skills:
UI automation: Selenium WebDriver, Playwright, Cypress, Appium
Languages: Java, JavaScript or TypeScript, Python, C#
API and performance: REST Assured, Postman, Pact, JMeter, k6
CI/CD and infrastructure: Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, Docker, Git
Test management: Jira, Xray or Zephyr, TestRail, Cucumber and other BDD frameworks
Consulting Competencies:
Consultants at this level are expected to operate with a high degree of independence on their assigned workstream while representing the firm's standards on the client site. That means listening carefully before proposing change, documenting decisions so they survive the end of the engagement and building client capability rather than dependence.
  • Adapts quickly to unfamiliar codebases, domains, and client processes.
  • Communicates risk early and frames it in terms of business impact, not just technical detail.
  • Builds trust with client engineers through pairing, knowledge transfer, and clear documentation.
  • Contributes to internal practice development, including reusable accelerators, training, and recruiting support.

What Success Looks Like:
First 30 days: Onboarded to the engagement, familiar with the client's application, existing test assets, and delivery process; contributing automated tests within the current framework.
First 90 days: Owning a meaningful portion of the automated regression suite, running reliably in the pipeline, with a documented view of coverage gaps and a plan to close them.
First 12 months: Recognized by the client as a trusted quality advisor, mentoring others, influencing test strategy, and contributing reusable assets back to the firm's practice.
Additional Information
We want everyone at CapTech to be able to envision a lasting and rewarding career here, which is why we offer a variety of career paths based on your skills and passions. You decide where and how you want to develop, and we help get you there with customizable career progression and a comprehensive benefits package to support you along the way.
