Job description

Job Summary

The Software Product Assurance Center’s Software Security Sensors and Effectors Department is seeking an experienced embedded software engineer to independently develop and deploy critical real‑time embedded solutions for the warfighter using Agile development techniques. The engineer will design, develop, integrate, and test firmware and application software in C/C++ on Linux and RTOS platforms, collaborate with systems and hardware engineering to produce design‑concept and system‑architecture documentation, and facilitate technical integration meetings with subcontractors to verify hardware and software requirements. The role also includes participating in Agile and DevSecOps workflows, performing board‑level debug and root cause analysis, and maintaining a building and testing pipeline using CMake and Google Test. The engineer will apply embedded principles to hardened software applications and ensure consistency and removal of impediments across teams.

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Software Engineering and at least 10 years of professional experience.
  • Experience developing and maintaining embedded software on microcontroller/processor platforms in an Agile and DevSecOps environment.
  • Proven ability to debug system‑ and board‑level issues across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Strong background in Linux; experience modifying and maintaining Linux Kernel root filesystem and device drivers.
  • Experience developing multithreaded applications in C and C++.
  • Proficiency in building and maintaining a code base using CMake and Google Test.
  • Valid U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with RTOS, embedded Linux, device driver development and real‑time software solutions.
  • Familiarity with x86 and ARM architectures and modern hardware technologies.
  • Knowledge of FPGA, bare‑metal firmware, and Linux Kernel driver development.
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git or Subversion.
  • Willingness to learn new techniques and apply critical thinking to diagnose customer issues.
