Job description

St. Luke’s School, a secular (non-religious), college-preparatory day school serving grades 5 through 12 in New Canaan, Connecticut, seeks a Math Tutor. The Math Tutoring program matches students who need additional support in their SLS math classes with an on-campus Math Tutor for tutoring sessions during the school day. The program typically provides support for students from middle school math through Algebra II. Typically, Tutors meet with 2-3 students per day, Monday-Friday.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide review and reteaching of material that students may have learned before but have not retained fully
  • Provide extra help for students with homework and quiz/test preparation
  • Document each tutoring session in a Google doc shared with the student’s SLS Math Teacher
  • Communicate with parents as needed

Key Skills and Qualities:

  • 2 years of experience as a Math teacher or tutor
  • Interest and experience in working with adolescents
  • Bachelors degree in Mathematics or related field

Compensation & Schedule:

  • This is an independent contractor role and not eligible for employee benefits.
  • Compensation is $175 per 60-minute tutoring session
  • Schedule: Each tutor’s schedule is created about a month prior to the start of the semester (Sept and Jan). SLS follows a rotating 6-day schedule, so there is no such thing as a “Monday schedule.” Rather, tutors are typically present on campus from about 11am to 3pm and meet with 2-3 students per day during that time period. Tutoring slots can be established for 60 minutes or 30 minutes depending on schedule and student needs. Tutors see the same students consistently for the entire semester.
  • Calendar: Tutors provide tutoring services following the 10-month academic calendar for breaks and holidays.
  • Job type: Part-Time, Independent Contractor
  • Work location: In-person
