Job description

St. Norbert College, a nationally ranked, private, Catholic liberal arts college, is seeking a Career Counselor. This position provides career counseling, coaching, and programming to students and alumni, empowering them to explore career paths, make informed decisions, and successfully pursue their professional goals. Through individualized guidance and innovative programming, the Career Counselor helps students and alumni make meaningful connections and contribute to the world through a purposeful career development process.
This is an on-site position requiring regular attendance on campus.

Specific responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized career counseling and advising to students and alumni on major and career exploration, graduate school preparation, internships, and job search strategies through in-person, virtual, phone, email, and walk-in appointments. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of advising interactions.

  • Review and provide constructive feedback on professional career materials, including resumes, cover letters, personal statements, graduate school applications, and other career-related documents.

  • Develop and deliver engaging presentations, workshops, and interactive programs for student groups, classes, and campus events on career-related topics, including major and career exploration, career assessments, graduate school preparation, internship and job search strategies, resume writing, and interviewing. Some evening and weekend participation may be required.

  • Administer, interpret, and remain current on career assessment tools to effectively guide students and alumni through the career exploration and decision-making process.

  • Develop and maintain career resources, educational materials, marketing content, and programming that support student career development and internship and employment success.

  • Plan, coordinate, and support career development events, programs, and workshops, including managing event logistics and assisting with major office initiatives.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to support the initiatives and strategic goals of the Academic Advising and Career Development Center and the College. Participate in professional development opportunities, professional associations, and required institutional training.

  • Support additional Academic Advising and Career Development Center functions, including employer relations and academic advising, as needed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's in Counseling, Education, Higher Education, or a related field preferred.

  • Certification in MBTI and Strong Interest Inventory is encouraged and preferred.

  • Valid Driver's License Required.

  • 3-4 years of experience in career counseling.

  • Knowledgeable in all career-related topics including: services overview, career decision-making, assessments, internship search, resume and cover letter writing, interviewing, professional dress, job search strategies, graduate/professional school search, and others.

  • Skilled at using career assessment instruments; presentation delivery; and computers proficiently.

  • Ability to demonstrate commitment to the value of a liberal arts education and to articulate the connection of a general education to career development.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally and provide exceptional customer service, including effectively resolving conflicts and addressing concerns.

  • Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking skills with the ability to prioritize competing responsibilities, meet deadlines, and successfully manage events, programs, and projects from planning through completion.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and other technology platforms, with the ability to quickly learn new systems and software.

  • Sound judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to work independently and exercise discretion.

  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills, including the ability to effectively engage large audiences.

  • Ability to serve as a positive role model by demonstrating professionalism, collaboration, and initiative.
