Job description

The Golf Academy at St. Johns is seeking a motivated, dependable, and team-oriented Golf Academy Assistant to join our growing instructional team. This position will primarily support our busy Junior Golf Academy and is ideal for someone who enjoys working with junior golfers, wants to grow as a golf instructor, and is committed to contributing to the overall success and growth of the Academy-not just their individual teaching business.
Position Details:
  • Approximately 20-25 hours per week
  • Monday-Friday
  • Primarily 3:00-7:00 PM during the school year
  • Some occasional morning hours, special events, camps, tournaments, or other Academy programming as needed
  • Opportunity for additional teaching responsibilities as experience and certifications are developed
  • Pay range: $16.00 - $20.00 per hour, depending on experience.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Assist with daily operation and instruction of a busy, thriving Junior Golf Academy
  • Help lead and support group instruction for intermediate through high-level junior golfers
  • Assist with full-swing, short-game, putting, practice drills, challenges, competitions, and on-course development
  • Help create an organized, productive, positive, and competitive training environment
  • Provide individual attention and feedback to players within a group-training setting
  • Assist with setup, breakdown, equipment, player organization, and other daily Academy needs
  • Communicate and coordinate effectively with the Director of Instruction and other Academy coaches
  • Be willing to step in wherever needed to support programming, events, camps, clinics, and the overall operation of the Academy
  • Actively contribute ideas and effort toward Academy growth, player development, retention, and programming
Playing & Teaching Qualifications:
  • Must be a strong golfer capable of consistently breaking 75
  • Comfortable demonstrating skills and playing alongside high- to mid-level junior golfers
  • Strong understanding of golf fundamentals, practice habits, course management, and competitive golf
  • Short-game knowledge and teaching experience are a major plus
  • Previous coaching, teaching, junior golf, or competitive playing experience preferred
  • PGA/LPGA certification or progress toward professional certification is a plus, but not required for the right candidate
What We're Looking For:
Above all, we are looking for a team player. Our Academy operates in a collaborative environment where coaches work together toward common goals and put the success of our students and Academy first.
The ideal candidate will be:
  • Dependable, punctual, professional, and highly communicative
  • Energetic and comfortable working with groups of junior golfers
  • Willing to learn our Academy's coaching philosophy, systems, and expectations
  • Coachable and receptive to feedback and continued professional development
  • Proactive-someone who sees what needs to be done and helps without always needing to be asked
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with multiple players and activities happening simultaneously
  • Invested in helping the entire Academy grow and succeed
  • A positive representative of the Academy with students, parents, members, staff, and the golf community
Growth Opportunity:
This position has the potential to develop into a larger instructional role for the right individual. Once properly trained, certified, and approved, there may be opportunities to:
  • Conduct private lessons
  • Develop additional clinics or instructional programming
  • Take on greater responsibilities within the Junior Golf Academy
  • Continue developing professionally as a golf instructor and coach

We are looking for someone who wants to become an important part of a successful coaching team and help us continue building and growing one of the area's strongest junior golf development programs.
Additional Perks:
  • 50% off employee meals
  • Employee discounts in the Golf Shop
  • Playing privileges (subject to course availability)
