Director of Global LogisticsAn advanced hardware and defense technology company is seeking a Director of Global Logistics to build and lead its end-to-end logistics and international shipping operation.
This is a highly strategic and hands-on leadership role focused on standing up scalable global logistics infrastructure from the ground up. The ideal candidate has experience operating in complex, fast-moving environments where they were responsible not only for execution, but also for designing the systems, workflows, and processes behind the operation.
The role will oversee international shipping, freight forwarding, customs coordination, export compliance, and logistics operations supporting highly regulated hardware programs and global customers.
ResponsibilitiesGlobal Logistics & Shipping Operations- Own all inbound and outbound logistics operations across domestic and international channels
- Manage carrier selection, routing strategies, freight forwarding partners, and shipment execution
- Coordinate closely with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Program teams to ensure successful delivery execution
- Ensure shipments are delivered on time, compliantly, and without damage
- Build scalable shipping workflows capable of supporting increasing production volume and global operations
Export Compliance & International Trade- Ensure compliance with ITAR, EAR, and other applicable export regulations
- Oversee export classifications including ECCN and USML categorization
- Manage international shipment execution including government and defense-related programs
- Coordinate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and external logistics providers
- Maintain documentation, audit readiness, filings, and shipment records
Process Development & Operational Scale- Establish logistics infrastructure, documentation standards, SOPs, packaging procedures, and shipment workflows
- Implement scalable operational processes and systems for shipping and trade compliance
- Help define organizational structure and operational ownership across logistics functions
- Partner cross-functionally to improve visibility, efficiency, and operational readiness
Risk Management & Issue Resolution- Identify and mitigate shipping, customs, compliance, and operational risks
- Resolve shipment delays, customs holds, and transportation issues
- Act as escalation point for critical logistics and trade-related problems
Qualifications- 10+ years of experience in logistics, global shipping, international trade, or export operations
- Strong experience with international freight forwarding and customs processes
- Working knowledge of ITAR, EAR, export controls, and trade compliance requirements
- Experience managing customs documentation, brokers, and global shipment execution
- Proven experience building or scaling logistics operations, processes, or teams
- Ability to operate both strategically and tactically in a fast-paced environment
- Strong cross-functional communication and operational leadership skills
Preferred Experience- Defense, aerospace, advanced manufacturing, or other regulated hardware industries
- Experience supporting FMS, government, or defense-related shipment requirements
- Familiarity with ERP, WMS, or TMS platforms and logistics system integrations
- Experience managing 3PLs, freight forwarders, and external logistics partners at scale
- Exposure to ATA Carnet processes and temporary import/export workflows
- Startup, scale-up, or high-growth operational experience strongly preferred
- Licensed Export Compliance Officer certification or equivalent experience is a plus
