Summary
Under general supervision, performs technical work of considerable difficulty researching, gathering, analyzing and presenting geospatial data in static (PDF) and interactive (web) maps.
Essential Job Functions
(Essential function, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. This list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class.)
  • Performs digital conversion of GIS projects using various techniques to map parcels by legal descriptions on deeds and plats
  • Provides GIS-related technical guidance and assistance to project teams.
  • Assists in the development of GIS standards.
  • Creates and maintains static (PDF) and interactive (web) maps.
  • Creates and maintains metadata for GIS data and maps.
  • Cooperatively work with staff to develop, edit, maintain, analyze and visualize appropriate datasets for their specific needs and applications that may require simple or complex editing workflows.
  • Researches and identifies user needs for GIS application, data and training
  • Converts data from various sources into geodatabase.
  • Research and interpret public records and related maps and drawings.
  • Converts and Exports data to various formats
  • Conducts research and recommends systemic and operational improvements.
  • Develops expertise in GIS, researches new technologies and methodologies, recommends systemic and operational improvements.
  • Provides technical assistance and ad-hoc user training to GIS users.
  • Assists in maintaining ArcGIS Enterprise and Online portal content.

Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge of currently available ESRI GIS software.
  • Knowledge of ArcGIS Desktop's/Pro's use of arcade, Structured Query Language (SQL) and python in querying, filtering and displaying data
  • Knowledge of the rectangular land survey system (PLSS).
  • Knowledge of cartographic design principles.
  • Skill in performing advanced analysis of simple and complex datasets
  • Skill in creating maps both static and interactive.
  • Skill in working with users to determine system requirements and correct problems.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public
  • Skill in communicating effectively both orally and in writing

Desirable Qualifications
Associate Degree in GIS, geography, urban planning, environmental science or related field, and one year of professional experience using ESRI's software OR; any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.

(Regular Part Time employees working 30 - 39 hours a week receive some benefits on a pro-rated basis.
