SUMMARY: Student interns perform a variety of routine to moderately difficult tasks in support of the assigned program or department. During the internship, student interns will learn about program/departmental specific operations, delivering services to diverse populations and administrative and other needs of the program/department. Specific tasks and duties will be defined by the intern and assigned supervisor consistent with program and department needs and the learning objectives of the intern. 


SUPERVISOR: Dependent on program or department 


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs a wide range of tasks depending on the program or department assigned, including but not limited to field work, administrative responsibilities and specialized or technical support. 
  • Offer support to clients and program staff as directed by the intern’s supervisor.      
  • Maintain current knowledge of all applicable AFS policies/procedures and functions according to these standards.
  • Maintain confidential client records and information in accordance with HIPPA, other regulatory standards and AFS policy/procedure.
  • Gain knowledge of various resources and key stakeholders in the community.
  • Collaborate with other agency programs and external services to ensure coordinated care/support for clients, making referrals to external services within the community and within the Agency as needed.
  • Comply with COA and HRSA regulations, federal and state requirements, and educational/certification/registry requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in psychology, social work, human services, counseling, gerontology, youth & child development, non-profit management, healthcare or related field. 
  • Passionate about serving disadvantaged populations and making an impact in the community.
  • Ability to deliver services to diverse populations with varying needs. 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion. 
  • Openness to learning new skills, gaining direct service experience and exposure to programmatic operations and goals.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision  
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care, preferred. 
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and any other specific department or program requirements.
