What Does a Game Writer Do?

A game writer works in either the video gaming industry, the educational gaming industry, or the board game industry. These duties are similar regardless of the type of game you are writing, although, with video game and education game writing, there is generally more collaboration among a larger team of writers, as well as between the writers and other technical workers, such as animators.

To become a game writer, you typically need strong storytelling skills, proficiency in writing and editing, and knowledge of game development tools or scripting languages. Building a portfolio of writing samples and gaining experience through internships or entry-level positions in game design can also help establish a career in game writing.
