Job description

TDM Farms, the hog production division of Hog Slat, Incorporated, is seeking an individual with management skills and hog experience to fill the role of our Swine Production Supervisor. The territory for this position would be located in and around the Carroll, Cass, and Miami County Indiana area.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned as business conditions change.
  • Provide care for animals on farms in a manner consistent with TDM's established animal welfare practices
  • Note any practices which are taking place and do not follow TDM Standard Operating Procedures and take immediate action to rectify the situation
  • Identify market hogs and mark
  • Project market loads into future dates
  • Train growers and barn staff
  • Suggest recommendations on swine medication usage
  • Monitor and adjust ventilation
  • Split down pigs
  • Observe and report maintenance and repair work
  • Ability to post pigs and send in for diagnostic work
  • Collect blood samples
  • Understand and implement pig flow
  • Monitor feeder adjustments and feed budget
  • Keep all equipment and company vehicles clean
  • Monitor the health of hogs and report the results to all parties
  • Effectively communicate with growers, transportation, personnel, supervisor, and vet services
  • Provide solutions, tools and feedback to team in order to help each farm meet goals
  • Maintenance of and adherence to TDM's established bio-security protocol
  • Deliver materials to farms such as medications, equipment, etc.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ PHYSICAL DEMANDS REQUIRED:
The IDEAL CANDIDATE will have the following experience/educational background:
  • At least 2 years of experience working in a pork production facility required (additional experience may be considered in lieu of a two or four-year degree)
  • Experience in safe animal handling practices
  • Performs duties for approximately 9-10 hours a day. Scheduling could vary and you could be called to report to work at any given time of a 24 hour time period
  • A proven track record in managing production on live production hog farms
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Requires to push, pull, and maneuver animals and materials weighing form 15-350lbs in a humane manner
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to step in and out of pens(33" in height) 200 plus times per day
  • A valid drivers license with a satisfactory driving record

WORKING CONDITIONS AND EXPOSURES:
  • Temperatures range from cold and hot to humid
  • Exposure to dusty conditions, odor, high noise level, concrete floors, and cleaning components
