Job description

Location Preference: Europe / East Coast U.S.

As Director, Development Strategy,  you help drive and manage the periodic global portfolio title review process across PlayStation Studios, including tracking and reporting on multiple games in various development stages, coordinating internal reviews, assisting in collecting and reviewing materials, and driving follow-up actions.

Using your extensive knowledge and experience as a leader in game development, you ask the right questions at the right time, while considering the stage of development, the nature of the game being developed, as well as the studios' culture and ways of working. It is in your nature to invite constructive deliberation, informed weighing of pros/cons and promote transparency between all parties and stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  • Drive periodic title reviews travelling onsite at studio locations globally as well as virtually. 
  • Propel title review preparations, including partnering with studios and coordinating with other internal groups such as user research, publishing, forecasting, and finance. 
  • Foster positive relationships by building trust and ensure alignment across development teams, executive leadership, and support groups. 
  • Partner with studio leadership to gain a holistic understanding of the game and studio goals to then provide actionable insights at key moments throughout the development lifecycle. 
  • Collect and share best practices by working with and learning from PlayStation's collection of world class studios.
  • Take on the role of interpreter, diplomat, and advocate for the title review process to increase transparency with all stakeholders.  
  • Proactively suggest and implement improvements to the title development framework process and internal department work systems. 
  • Maintain and continuously advocate for a title development framework that values integrity, transparency, and accountability. 
  • Take on special projects beyond core responsibilities as needed by the organization.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in internal game production that includes bringing a game to launch and a leadership role on a game team. 
  • Strong understanding of the game development lifecycle and industry best practices across multiple game types, genres, platforms, and business models. 
  • Ability to review and analyze development stage deliverables; creative, financial, and business related and assist in determining if a wide range of different games are tracking as expected. 
  • Excellent and personable communicator with a track record of engaging partners across multiple departments and teams, balancing diplomacy, tact, and credibility. 
  • Ability to prioritize, plan, and execute simultaneously across multiple projects with varying stakeholders. 
  • Proficiency in balancing the benefits of a structured process with the flexibility required to match the reality of varying studio needs. 
  • Familiarity working with global teams across different cultures and time zones. 
  • Experience with tools for user research, playtesting, and metrics analysis. 
  • Adaptable, curious team player, capable of working collaboratively or independently as required by the task.
