General Definition of Work
Under the general supervision of the Real Time Crime Center Supervisor, performs difficult technical work conducting open-source internet investigations to include social media. Manages multiple databases and software utilized in the Real Time Crime Center. Locates and distributes real time data to appropriate personnel. Research requests for information and related works as apparent or assigned.

Examples of Duties
  • Manages multiple databases specific to law enforcement investigations for the WSPD Real Time Crime Center (RTCC).
  • Conducts research and investigations on behalf of the RTCC using the following resources: National Crime Information Center (NCIC), Employment Security Commicssion (ESC), TransUnion, TLOxp, CLEAR, Fusus, ShotSpotter, Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV), LiNX, among others.
  • Uses open-source internet resources to include Facebook, Instagram, ShapChat, Twitter, TikTok, WhatsApp, and other social media platforms to conduct investigations.
  • On behalf of the RTCC, prepares information packets based on investigations performed.
  • Acts as a liaison to outside agencies and other law enforcement agency's Real Time Crime Centers include the Fusion Center; fulfills and answers their requests and questions.
  • Designs and develops statistical reporting and GIS map projects to address departmental management objectives.
  • Performs strategic analysis of information and statistical reporting and proactively monitor crime patterns.
  • Extracts and analyzes public safety data to identify and document crime patterns and trends, high crime areas, peak workload periods.
  • Designs and develops graphs, tables, maps, and supporting documentation for internal and external requests such as benchmark analysis, accreditation, and grant applications and reporting

Typical Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Comprehensive knowledge of City and police department policy and procedures; comprehensive knowledge of related industry and organization practices and procedures; ability to use discretion in the possession of confidential information; ability to use logic and reasoning to understand, analyze, and evaluate complex situations and research information to assist in investigations, knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and position specific software platforms, thorough knowledge of database management, thorough knowledge of the internet and social media platforms, ability to interpret real time data and communicate that data effectively in both written and oral forms; fundamental understanding of departmental policy, elements of criminal law, elements of criminal investigation and elements of public safety; ability to establish and maintain effective relations with other employees, agencies, and the public; ability to pass certification courses for various software programs and databases (NCIC/DCI, CJIS).
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree with course work in law enforcement, elementary programming, computer science, criminal justice, or related field; or, equivalent of education and experience. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Crystal Reports, and GIS software is desired, but not required. Knowledge of public safety operations, Superion Records Management System and Computer Aided Dispatch software is preferred.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, reaching with hands or arms and pushing or pulling; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; ability to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data; visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts; work is generally in a moderate noise locations (e.g. business office with typewriters and/or computer printers, light traffic)
Supplemental Information
STARTING SALARY $54,620.53 where upon successful completion of training salary will be brought up to $57,495.29
