Job description

Description:

This position is responsible for moving materials, supplies, molten aluminum and raw stock to designated areas while tending the main furnace/machine furnaces by melting aluminum sows, ingots, and scrap material in order to maintain the flow of production.

Requirements:
  • Participate in safe operations of Furnace Department practices and uphold housekeeping standards.
  • Safely operate forklift including safety checks, hazard reports and safety of other employees.
  • Operate sit down fork truck to pick up, move and deliver materials as needed to maintain production needs. This includes: scrap hoppers of aluminum, empty containers for production, furnace department components and supplies, molten metal, ingot and sows
  • Safely deliver molten metal to die cast machines as required with minimal interruptions to operations, including maintaining proper metal levels, and avoiding machine downtime due to interruptions in service or breakdowns of equipment related to metal delivery.
  • Must utilize and care for proper PPE as required by the job function performed per instructions and training documents.
  • Actively engage in continuous improvement of safety and housekeeping standards.
  • Follow safety requirements when pouring, dumping scrap and loading furnaces.
  • Responsible for the proper operations of heat-treating furnaces and related equipment
  • Maintain proper metal properties and metal levels in melt and holding furnaces.
  • Charge main metal furnaces with ingot, molten metal and scrap as necessary to maintain proper metal levels and restart furnace from off position.
  • Perform metal temperature checks to ensure metal temperature is within specific temperature range, record temperature readings and notify supervisor if temperature is out of specific range.
  • Assist with Metal quality checks by making aluminum pucks at specific times for the lab to analyze to ensure proper chemistry make up is maintained in accordance to alloy specifications.
  • Make additions to the Furnace when the lab requests the chemistry be adjusted.
  • Deliver quality raw product and ensure removal of scrap in timely manner.
  • Clean melt and holding furnaces as required using flux and removing dross as necessary.
  • Properly perform preventative and predictive maintenance on dosing furnaces as well as troubleshooting when necessary.
  • Other duties include, but are not limited to, drying out holding and melting furnaces and replacing furnace doors in a timely manner. Major rebuild and repair to launder stacks.
  • Other duties as assigned

Academic Requirements

ยท High School Diploma or Equivalency preferred

ยท Certified to drive sit down fork trucks preferred

  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to maintain proper metal levels in all furnaces utilizing basic mathematical equations.

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
