Job description

Landmark Funeral Group is a trusted provider of compassionate, professional funeral and memorial services. Families rely on us during some of life's most difficult moments, and we take pride in delivering care with dignity, respect, and precision.

As part of Landmark Funeral Group, this position supports our operating partner, Walker Funeral Homes and Crematory where this role will be based and contribute day-to-day.

Every role at Walker Funeral Homes and Crematory supports our mission of serving families with excellence. Our team members understand that the details matter — from the way we communicate with a family to the way we coordinate each step of the service process. We value compassion, professionalism, reliability, and a calm presence.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Funeral Director & Care Center Manager to provide hands-on leadership for our Care Center operations while continuing to serve families as a licensed funeral professional.

This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced Funeral Director and Embalmer who enjoys both the technical side of funeral service and leading people and operations. You'll oversee the day-to-day workflow of the Care Center, lead and develop the team, ensure exceptional standards of decedent care, and work closely with our funeral home locations to provide reliable, responsive support.

This is not a desk-only management position. The right person will be comfortable stepping in to embalm and prepare decedents when needed, solving operational challenges, developing employees, and creating processes that help the entire market operate more effectively.

What You'll DoCare Center Operations
  • Lead the day-to-day operations and workflow of the Care Center.
  • Ensure decedents are received, identified, tracked, cared for, and released according to established standards and procedures.
  • Coordinate and prioritize embalming, preparation, dressing, cosmetology, casketing, cremation preparation, and other Care Center activities.
  • Personally perform embalming, preparation, and other licensed funeral service responsibilities as needed.
  • Maintain strong identification, chain-of-custody, documentation, and quality-control practices.
  • Monitor workflow and capacity and proactively address delays, service issues, or changing priorities.
  • Partner closely with funeral home teams to coordinate preparation deadlines, service schedules, and special family requests.
Team Leadership
  • Lead, coach, and develop Care Center and assigned funeral home team members.
  • Establish clear responsibilities, performance expectations, and standards of accountability.
  • Develop schedules that provide appropriate coverage while effectively managing overtime and labor needs.
  • Train employees on procedures, safety requirements, quality expectations, and service standards.
  • Participate in interviewing, hiring, onboarding, performance management, and employee development.
  • Build a culture of teamwork, professionalism, accountability, and respect.
Funeral Director & Family Care
  • Serve families with compassion, professionalism, dignity, and respect.
  • Make funeral and memorial arrangements with families as assigned.
  • Coordinate and direct funeral, memorial, graveside, and other services.
  • Ensure required documentation, permits, authorizations, and records are completed accurately.
  • Coordinate with cemeteries, clergy, crematories, vendors, and other service partners.
  • Participate in funeral director coverage and the market's on-call rotation as required.
Quality, Safety & Operations
  • Maintain high standards for embalming, preparation, presentation, and overall decedent care.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable funeral service regulations, OSHA requirements, infection-control practices, PPE requirements, and company safety procedures.
  • Respond quickly to quality concerns, service delays, identification issues, or other operational challenges.
  • Manage supplies, staffing, transportation, and other controllable Care Center expenses responsibly.
  • Use operational data and sound judgment to identify opportunities to improve efficiency, consistency, service, and cost effectiveness.
What We're Looking For
  • Current Funeral Director and/or Embalmer license as required by the state in which the position operates
  • Embalming and decedent preparation experience required, where applicable to the position
  • Five or more years of funeral service experience preferred
  • Previous supervisory, lead, or management experience strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of funeral home and Care Center operations
  • Knowledge of applicable funeral service regulations, OSHA requirements, infection-control practices, and professional standards
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach, develop, and hold employees accountable
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage changing priorities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable using technology and case-management systems
  • Designated state Crematory Operator Permit or willingness to obtain one within 30 days of employment
Benefits
  • 401(k) with 5% company match
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Generous PTO
  • Employee discounts
