Job description

Ulland Brothers, Inc. is a civil, highway-heavy, aggregate, and site development contractor with offices in Carlton, Virginia, and Albert Lea, Minnesota. With more than 100 years of experience in the construction industry, Ulland Brothers has built a strong reputation for quality and reliability.
We are currently seeking a Grading Superintendent to join our team. This position reports directly to the General Superintendent and is responsible for overseeing project safety, as well as providing leadership and management to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Represent Ulland Brothers in a professional manner
  • Interface and maintain a good relationship with owners, inspectors, prime contractors, subcontractors and the general public
  • Be a partner in the development, recruitment and retention of our workforce
  • Oversight of Project Safety including but not limited to:
    • Implementing Ulland Brothers Safety Policy
    • Pre-task Plans/JHA Safety Paperwork
    • Inspecting and monitoring of traffic control layouts and devices
    • Proper use of Personal Protective Equipment
    • Accident / incident prevention and reporting
    • Conduct weekly tailgate safety meetings
  • Be familiar with the current Standard Specifications for Construction
  • Read, know and understand the Project Plans and Specifications
  • Set and monitor daily production goals in accordance with estimate and budget
  • Schedule project personnel, equipment, and material needs to utilize our resources to their fullest potential
  • Monitor equipment for maintenance and repair
  • Complete daily administrative work as required on the project. (time cards, daily logs, work reports, etc.)
  • Attend industry related training programs
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • Experience in construction field operations
  • The ability to effectively communicate with all parties involved
  • Computer skills and the ability to utilize the latest advances in technology
  • Accurate record keeping
  • Reading and understanding plans and specifications
  • Ability to work independently and follow direction
  • Honest, consistent and reliable
  • Mechanical abilities are a plus
  • Acceptable driving record required
