Job description

Job Title: Implementation Specialist
Grade: 23
Salary: $84,806-$93,896
The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a full-time Implementation Specialist position. Under the auspices of the New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH), the Center for Practice Innovations (CPI) promotes the widespread use of evidence-based practices within behavioral health provider agencies throughout New York State. Considered an "Intermediary Organization" for implementation, CPI uses innovative approaches to build stakeholder collaborations, develop and maintain practitioners' expertise, and build agency infrastructures that support implementing and sustaining evidence-based practices. CPI also works with OMH to identify and involve program participants, families, providers, and scientific/academic organizations as partners in supporting the goals of OMH and CPI.
The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time Implementation Specialist/Trainer for CPI's new Crisis Engagement Skills Training Institute called CRESTNY. The CRESTNY Institute will provide intensive, interdisciplinary, integrated, and evidence informed training, support, education, and consultation to a diverse spectrum of crisis services across New York State. The CRESTNY Institute is looking for professionals to disseminate, implement, and sustain core competencies and best practices for crisis services providers.
The applicants applying for this position must be self-directed, team players committed to person-centered, trauma informed, and culturally responsive crisis services. They must value a data-driven approach to planning, delivering, and improving behavioral health related crisis services. This includes openness to learning about reflective practice, healing justice, and harm reduction approaches to providing behavioral health crisis services and developing a thorough understanding of equity driven crisis services and practices. The applicants must have extensive experience with behavioral health issues and structures through work and/or personal experience. Further, we seek people with excellent interpersonal skills who can work with diverse populations at all levels of an organization. Familiarity with other community services and systems, services for the unhoused, harm reduction, peer support, and carceral systems is preferred.
The CRESTNY Institute is located at the Center for Practice Innovations (CPI), in the New York State Psychiatric Institute.
The Implementation Specialists/Trainers report directly to the Director of CRESTNY. The successful candidate will also work collaboratively with the NYS OMH. Additionally, the successful candidates will work with staff in different units (e.g., data analysis, online assistance unit, content/module development unit, continuing education unit) to support the work. This position will require occasional travel throughout NYC/NYS. Finally, as members of CPI, the implementation specialists/trainers will collaborate closely with other initiatives in the center to support the work.
This position is fully remote. All applicants must live in New York State or NYC region to be considered.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Leading or co-leading specific training efforts to support core competencies and best practices in the field of behavioral health related crisis services.
  • Leading or co-leading specific technical assistance efforts (e.g. Communities of Practice, quality improvement projects, etc.) to support implementation of core competencies and best practices in the field of behavioral health related crisis services.
  • Developing culturally congruent and equity driven training materials including online modules, webinars, and in-person training.
  • Developing culturally congruent and equity driven implementation tools for behavioral health related crisis service providers, agencies, program leaders, supervisors, practitioners, and service users and their communities, including implementation guides and practice-specific workbooks.
  • Supporting the director in conducting, gathering, and interpreting data from ongoing needs assessments.
  • Staying abreast of federal, state, and local policies and programs for behavioral health related crisis services and systems.
  • Staying abreast of the literature on evidence-based practices, best practices, and emerging issues related to crisis services and systems.
  • Traveling throughout New York City and other regions of NY to provide in-person training and implementation support.
  • Working with CPI's module development unit, subject matter experts, OMH, vendors, and others to ensure that new online training modules are developed and made available to learners.
  • Supporting the development of pre-and-post evaluations, surveys, and questionnaires for ongoing data collection and quality improvement.
  • Supporting the Director in reviewing CPI's currently existing online training modules and recommending what is relevant for this Initiative.
  • Participating in the design and creation of marketing materials for the Initiative learning community meetings, webinars, training sessions, consultations, and support calls.
  • Writing/editing newsletters, news briefs, and project summaries.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree and (6) years of experience in behavioral health related crisis services or a related field; a master's degree and four years of experience; or a Doctorate and (2) years of experience.
  • Personal lived & living experience of mental health and/or substance use recovery, and related NYS systems involvement can substitute for education.
  • At least (5) years of experience creating training content, facilitating training/workshops, and providing technical assistance or consultation services in behavioral and/or public health arenas.
  • Must be able to travel to in-state and to on-site meetings as needed
