The Lakefront, Anchorage hotel (formerly the Millennium Hotel) is recruiting for full time, Steward to join our team. At the Lakefront Anchorage Hotel, we strive to deliver a memorable experience for our guests. Situated on the shores of scenic Lake Spenard, one mile from Anchorage International Airport and four miles from downtown Anchorage, the Lakefront Anchorage Hotel is the perfect starting point to explore the many wonders Alaska has to offer. The Lakefront Anchorage Hotel boasts 248 rooms and three outstanding food and beverage outlets.
The role of the steward is promptly and carefully sort soiled ware so that it can be put through the dish or pot machine properly. Quickly wash all ware and replace in storage areas as designated. Physical strength and stamina are essential to this position due to the high activity level.
Typical duties of the steward include:
  • Keep dish machine properly cleaned and filled with water per hotel standards.
  • Polish silver for proper appearance after cleaning
  • Check station before, during and after shift for proper set-up and cleanliness.
  • Clean kettles, tilt skillets, pots and pans promptly and completely so cooks can carry out their work.
  • Empty all trash in service areas at predetermined times and upon request from the manager.
  • Other duties as assigned or requested by management.
  • Perform general /routine cleaning tasks using standard hotel cleaning products as assigned by supervisor to adhere to health standards.
  • Clean and dry floors to avoid slip/fall accidents.
  • Separate linen from other debris.
  • Perform other duties as requested, such as moving supplies and equipment, cleaning up spills, etc.
The successful applicant will:
  • Ability to push/pull service carts fully loaded with soiled ware.
  • Ability to read the English language so as to fully comprehend job requests, caution notices and similar written materials.
  • Ability to grasp, lift and/or carry or otherwise move or push goods on a hand cart/truck weighing a maximum of 50 lbs.
  • Work area may be humid and wet. Temperatures sufficient to cause bodily discomfort are possible in dish area of hotel.
  • Work area may have high levels of intense noise from machines, telephones and conversation.
  • Frequent interruptions are likely. The ability to change tasks frequently and easily is required.
  • Patience, tact and diplomacy.
  • Must have a valid food handlers' card.
  • Work as a productive team member by contributing positive energy.
  • Perform the duties of the position in a safe manner.
  • Be professional in all interactions with associates.
  • Previous stewarding (Dishwashing & kitchen cleaning) experience preferred but not necessary.
  • Prior hospitality experience preferred.
