Labcorp is seeking a VP, Data Governance Officer to join our team in Durham, NC.
Location: Burlington, NC or Durham, NC.
Applicants who live within 35 miles of either the Burlington, NC or Durham, NC location will follow a hybrid schedule. This schedule includes a minimum of three in office days per week at an assigned location, either Burlington or Durham, supporting both collaboration and flexibility.
Work Schedule: This is a full-time, exempt (salaried) position assigned to a First Shift schedule, with standard business hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST.
Business needs may occasionally require flexibility in work hours, including earlier, later, or additional hours, with reasonable notice provided when possible.
Job Responsibilities
Data Strategy & Governance
  • Develop and lead a comprehensive data governance framework for clinical genomics and oncology.
  • Establish policies, procedures, and stewardship models aligned with HIPAA, CLIA, CAP, FDA, GxP, and GDPR.
  • Provides strategic oversight to ensure compliance with privacy, information security, and consent management requirements for genetic and clinical data.
  • Oversee protection and access controls for PHI and genomic data.

Data Quality, Interoperability & Reporting
  • Provides strategic oImplement frameworks to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and completeness of data.
  • Define and enforce data standards (HGVS, ClinVar, LOINC, SNOMED, HL7, FHIR).
  • Enhance interoperability across LIS, EHRs, genomic repositories, and AI platforms.
  • Develop and monitor KPIs for data quality, compliance, and governance effectiveness, reporting outcomes to leadership.

Technology & Data Management
  • Oversee the implementation and use of governance tools (e.g., Collibra, Informatica, Alation).
  • Integrate governance processes within LIS (Epic Beaker, Sunquest), EHRs (Epic, Cerner), and cloud bioinformatics platforms.
  • Support Master Data Management initiatives for unified patient, test, and provider data.
  • Define and manage budgets for governance programs and influence technology investments aligned with governance standards.

Collaboration & Leadership
  • Oversee the Data Governance Program Coordinator team, that will lead and develop a data stewards enterprise program, aligned to the business segments.
  • Partner with clinicians, lab directors, IT, compliance, and R&D teams to align governance with clinical and operational needs.
  • Define data ownership and stewardship roles, leading training and awareness programs to promote data literacy.
  • Influence governance practices across business lines and throughout the technology lifecycle.

  • Compliance & Risk: Ensures regulatory adherence while reducing security and compliance risks.

  • Direct Leadership: Manages a team of 3 data program governance professionals & a IT Manager - Data Protection Team - 5 with clear accountability for delivery.
  • Cross-Functional Influence: Shapes governance practices across clinical, operational, and research environments, influencing technology initiatives enterprise-wide.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Health Informatics, Bioinformatics, Data Science, Information Management, or Information Technology.
  • 5+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or healthcare data compliance.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree
  • Certifications such as Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP), Certified Health Data Analyst (CHDA), or GxP-related certifications.
  • Experience with AI-driven precision medicine initiatives, clinical trial data management, or cloud-based genomics platforms (AWS HealthLake, Google Cloud Genomics, Azure for Healthcare).
  • Background in next-generation sequencing (NGS), molecular pathology, or precision oncology research.

About the Role
The Data Governance Officer serves as a strategic leader responsible for shaping and executing enterprise-wide data governance initiatives across Diagnostics (DX), Biopharma Laboratory Services (BLS), and corporate functions. This role ensures the integrity, security, and regulatory compliance of patient and laboratory data, aligning with HIPAA, CLIA, CAP, FDA, and GxP standards.
With a focus on enabling precision medicine and operational excellence, the Officer drives data quality, standardization, and interoperability across Laboratory Information Systems (LIS), Electronic Health Records (EHRs), genomic databases, and bioinformatics platforms. This position partners closely with clinical, research, IT, and compliance stakeholders to embed robust data management practices that support innovation, scalability, and strategic growth.
