Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The offices within the Enrollment Division (Office of Undergraduate Admissions, Office of Scholarships and Student Aid (OSSA), the Office of the University Registrar, and the Carolina College Advising Corps) focus on increasing the enrollment of outstanding students from North Carolina and beyond, including students who strengthen diversity; meeting the full demonstrated financial need of all undergraduate students who qualify for federal aid; maintaining the integrity of the student record and academic and administrative processes; supporting student success; and providing great care to all who come our way. The work of the Enrollment Division is closely scrutinized by students and their families; by faculty, staff, students, and alumni; by secondary-school teachers and administrators; by lawmakers at the local, state, and national level; and by the media.
Position Summary
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking a Data Analyst to join the Division of Student Success. This full-time temporary role, with a hybrid work schedule, is responsible for contributing to several data science projects, including modeling applicant interest, admitted student yield, and summer melt.
Serving as a member of the Strategic Data team, the data analyst will help develop models to better explain key facets of the admission and enrollment cycles and share findings/implications with Division and campus partners.
Key responsibilities include developing modeling approaches to specific questions, identifying appropriate data fields, cleaning/structuring of these data, and model testing. The data analyst also supports various administrative processes, including thorough documentation of developed processes and consistent communication with the Strategic Data and Enrollment Systems teams.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Management Preferences
*Statistical modeling and machine learning experience
* Experience working with large data sets
* Experience with Python, R, STATA, and/or SQL
* Ability to explain model construction, assumptions and limitations to non-technical stakeholders
