What is full time remote accounting?

A Full Time Remote Accounting job is a position where an accountant works the standard number of full-time hours (typically 35-40 hours per week) from a location outside the traditional office, often from home. These roles involve responsibilities such as managing financial records, preparing reports, processing invoices, and ensuring compliance with regulations, all through cloud-based software and virtual communication tools. Remote accountants collaborate with clients and team members online, making strong communication and self-management skills essential. This setup offers flexibility but requires reliable internet access and a secure workspace to handle sensitive financial data.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full time remote accountant?

To excel as a Full Time Remote Accountant, you need solid knowledge of accounting principles, experience with financial reporting, and a relevant degree or CPA certification. Familiarity with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, or SAP, and proficiency in spreadsheets are typically required. Strong attention to detail, time management, and effective communication skills help remote accountants manage tasks independently and collaborate with teams. These abilities ensure accurate financial management, compliance, and the smooth operation of remote accounting functions.

What are some common challenges faced in a full-time remote accounting role, and how can I overcome them?

In a full-time remote accounting position, professionals often face challenges such as maintaining clear communication with clients and team members, managing time effectively across multiple tasks, and ensuring data security when handling sensitive financial information remotely. To overcome these obstacles, it's important to utilize secure cloud-based accounting software, set regular check-ins with your team, and establish a structured daily routine. Proactively communicating through collaboration tools and staying updated on remote work best practices can help ensure accuracy and efficiency in your work.

Job description

Client Accounting Manager

Full-Time | Remote | $70,000–$80,000 Base Salary + Performance Bonus Opportunity

About the Job:
We are hiring a full-time, fully remote Client Accounting Manager to oversee the quality and delivery of bookkeeping services across a large portfolio of client accounts while leading a small team of Pod Leaders/Lead Bookkeepers.

This role is a great fit for someone who brings together three key strengths:
  • Excellent client communication and relationship management.
  • Strong bookkeeping/accounting knowledge with extensive QuickBooks Online experience.
  • Strong technology skills and the ability to effectively manage a high volume of clients, priorities, and moving pieces.

What You’ll Do:
Bookkeeping & Quality Oversight:
  • Oversee the accuracy and timeliness of bookkeeping across 100+ client accounts.
  • Use your bookkeeping and accounting knowledge to identify errors, troubleshoot issues, and provide guidance on more complex bookkeeping questions.
  • Ensure our bookkeeping standards and established processes are followed consistently.
  • Serve as an escalation point for Pod Leaders when they need help resolving bookkeeping or QuickBooks Online issues.
  • Review financial information and recognize when something doesn’t look right.
  • Maintain a high standard of accuracy across a large client portfolio without personally performing the day-to-day bookkeeping.

Team Leadership
  • Lead and support a small team of Pod Leaders/Lead Bookkeepers, who directly oversee our bookkeepers and their assigned client accounts.
  • Hold Pod Leaders accountable for accuracy, deadlines, client communication, and team performance.
  • Coach team members through challenges and help strengthen their technical and leadership skills.
  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, and training as the bookkeeping team grows.
  • Conduct regular virtual meetings and maintain clear communication across the team.
  • Provide direction and support while empowering Pod Leaders to effectively manage their teams.

Client Communication & Relationship Management:
  • Onboard new clients, building a strong relationship and setting clear expectations from the beginning.
  • Meet regularly with clients to review their financials, answer questions, and help them better understand their numbers.
  • Serve as a trusted contact for clients and an escalation point when questions or concerns arise.
  • Communicate clearly, professionally, and confidently through email and virtual meetings.
  • Handle difficult or sensitive client conversations with good judgment.
  • Follow through consistently and ensure clients feel heard, informed, and supported.
  • Clearly communicate client needs and important changes to the internal bookkeeping team.

Technology, Systems & Organization:
  • Work confidently in QuickBooks Online and learn new technology quickly.
  • Navigate multiple systems and client accounts efficiently in a fully remote environment.
  • Effectively manage and follow established systems and processes across a large client portfolio.
  • Ensure the team consistently follows established workflows and procedures.
  • Keep client information, action items, deadlines, and internal communication organized across multiple platforms.
  • Be comfortable adopting new technology and tools as the company grows.

What Success Looks Like:
  • Bookkeeping across the client portfolio is accurate and completed on time.
  • Pod Leaders know what is expected of them and have the support they need to successfully lead their teams.
  • Clients are onboarded smoothly and receive consistent, proactive communication.
  • Client questions and concerns are handled quickly, professionally, and confidently.
  • Problems are identified and addressed before they become larger client issues.
  • You can comfortably keep track of a large number of clients, priorities, deadlines, and moving pieces.
  • Established systems and processes are consistently followed, allowing the team to effectively manage a growing client base.
  • Clients feel supported and confident in the service they receive.

Qualifications:
Required:
  • Must be based in the United States.
  • Extensive bookkeeping/accounting experience.
  • Extensive hands on experience with QuickBooks Online.
  • Strong understanding of financial statements, including the Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet.
  • Ability to identify and troubleshoot bookkeeping and accounting issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience communicating directly with clients or customers in a professional environment.
  • Strong technology skills and the ability to learn new software quickly.
  • Highly organized and comfortable managing a large volume of accounts, deadlines, and competing priorities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership in a fully remote environment.
  • Available Monday - Friday during Central Time business hours.

Preferred:
  • Experience leading or managing bookkeeping/accounting professionals.
  • Experience overseeing a large portfolio of bookkeeping or accounting clients.
  • Experience working in a multi-client accounting, bookkeeping, CAS, or professional services environment.
  • Experience working with real estate agents, teams, or brokerages.
  • Experience in a client-facing accounting role.

Technical Requirements:
Team members are expected to provide:
  • Reliable high-speed internet.
  • Webcam.
  • Computer.

Hiring Process:
Candidates selected to move forward in the hiring process will be asked to submit a brief video introduction. Because this is a highly client-facing role, strong virtual communication skills are an important part of our evaluation process.

Our interview process will also evaluate QuickBooks Online knowledge, bookkeeping/accounting fundamentals, technology aptitude, problem-solving, and leadership ability.

Compensation & Benefits:
  • $70,000–$80,000 annual base salary.
  • Performance-based bonus opportunity available after the first 90 days, with annual bonus potential of approximately $5,000 - $10,000.
  • 2 weeks paid time off.
  • 10 paid holidays.
  • 100% remote work environment.
  • Ongoing training and professional development.

  • Can keep track of a lot of moving pieces without things falling through the cracks.

  • Take ownership and follow through.
  • Care deeply about accuracy, accountability, and the client experience.
