Full Time Remote Accounting information

What are some common challenges faced in a full-time remote accounting role, and how can I overcome them?

In a full-time remote accounting position, professionals often face challenges such as maintaining clear communication with clients and team members, managing time effectively across multiple tasks, and ensuring data security when handling sensitive financial information remotely. To overcome these obstacles, it's important to utilize secure cloud-based accounting software, set regular check-ins with your team, and establish a structured daily routine. Proactively communicating through collaboration tools and staying updated on remote work best practices can help ensure accuracy and efficiency in your work.

What is full time remote accounting?

A Full Time Remote Accounting job is a position where an accountant works the standard number of full-time hours (typically 35-40 hours per week) from a location outside the traditional office, often from home. These roles involve responsibilities such as managing financial records, preparing reports, processing invoices, and ensuring compliance with regulations, all through cloud-based software and virtual communication tools. Remote accountants collaborate with clients and team members online, making strong communication and self-management skills essential. This setup offers flexibility but requires reliable internet access and a secure workspace to handle sensitive financial data.

What is the difference between Full Time Remote Accounting vs Bookkeeping?

AspectFull Time Remote AccountingBookkeeping
CredentialsAccounting degree or CPA often preferredLess formal education typically required
Work EnvironmentRemote, often integrated with finance teamsRemote or on-site, focused on transaction recording
Job ResponsibilitiesFinancial analysis, reporting, complianceData entry, invoice processing, ledger management
Industry UsageWidely used in corporate finance and accounting firmsCommon in small businesses and bookkeeping services

Full Time Remote Accounting involves comprehensive financial tasks like analysis and reporting, often requiring formal credentials. Bookkeeping focuses on recording transactions and is generally less credential-dependent. Both roles can be remote, but accounting typically involves broader responsibilities within finance teams.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full time remote accountant?

To excel as a Full Time Remote Accountant, you need solid knowledge of accounting principles, experience with financial reporting, and a relevant degree or CPA certification. Familiarity with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, or SAP, and proficiency in spreadsheets are typically required. Strong attention to detail, time management, and effective communication skills help remote accountants manage tasks independently and collaborate with teams. These abilities ensure accurate financial management, compliance, and the smooth operation of remote accounting functions.

Job description

Caravel  |  BPM Technology Solutions

Project Coordinator (Accounting)

Delivery Operations / PMO (TSS)  ·  Full-time  ·  Remote — Austin, TX or Southern California (US hours)  ·  Early career

About Caravel

Caravel | BPM Technology Solutions is an award-winning NetSuite and Salesforce partner and part of BPM LLP, a Top-40 accounting and advisory firm. For 20+ years and 1,000+ implementations we\'ve helped businesses across North America put the right technology to work — honestly, and without the usual consulting theater. We\'re a fully remote team with delivery centers across the US, Canada, India, and the Philippines.

About the role

This is a launchpad role for an early-career accounting grad who likes organization, numbers, and seeing how the work actually gets done. As a Project Coordinator, you\'ll keep our consulting engagements on track and on-budget — managing schedules, tracking utilization, and supporting the billing and finance side of delivery. You\'ll sit at the intersection of delivery and finance, work alongside senior consultants, and build the foundation to grow toward a consulting career. You\'ll be billable to client work within about two months and ramp toward full utilization over your first year.

What you\'ll do
  • Keep engagements on track — build and maintain project schedules, track milestones and deliverables, and flag risks before they slip.
  • Track consultant time, resourcing, and utilization across engagements so the delivery picture stays current.
  • Support billing and finance — prepare and review time-and-expense entries, assist with invoicing, and help keep billing accurate and on time.
  • Administer SOWs and change orders, and keep project documentation and status reporting clean and up to date.
  • Coordinate across delivery teams, consultants, and clients on schedules, status, and logistics.
  • Partner with the PMO and finance to improve realization, reduce revenue leakage, and tighten collections (DSO).
What you\'ll bring
  • A bachelor\'s degree in accounting (or a closely related field) — recent graduate or early-career.
  • Strong organization and attention to detail; you keep many moving pieces straight without dropping any.
  • Comfort with numbers and spreadsheets (Excel), and genuine interest in how a services business runs and bills.
  • Clear written and verbal communication — you can chase a status update without chasing people off.
  • Ability to work US business hours, based in Austin, TX or Southern California.
  • A proactive, ownership mindset — you spot what needs doing and get it done.
Bonus points
  • Internship or coursework in accounting, finance, or professional-services operations.
  • Exposure to NetSuite, a PSA/project tool (OpenAir, Kantata/Mavenlink, Smartsheet), or billing/T&E systems.
  • Familiarity with consulting delivery, statements of work, or revenue-recognition basics.
Location & schedule

Full-time, remote — based in Austin, TX or Southern California, working core US business hours.

Why Caravel

This role is a launchpad. You\'ll learn how a leading NetSuite and Salesforce consultancy delivers and bills, work shoulder-to-shoulder with senior consultants, and build a foundation to grow toward a consulting track — inside a firm known for being honest to a fault and doing the work the right way.

Compensation & benefits

$58,000–$74,000 USD base, depending on location (Austin vs. Southern California) and experience, plus a clear path to billable, client-facing work and growth toward a consulting career. Fully remote, with the benefits of a globally distributed team.
