Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

Leads and manages complex projects, providing expert guidance on mechanical systems, and oversees advanced design, analysis, and problem-solving. Evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering techniques and procedures. This may involve using CAD software and other design and modeling tools to create and improve parts and products. Tests mechanical components and equipment to determine their strengths and weaknesses. Performs work under minimal supervision.  This role is a hybrid role with 4 days on-site in the Versailles, Ohio location and one day remote.  

ESSENTIAL/PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Leads the design and analysis of intricate mechanical systems, components, and equipment.
  • Independently identifies and solves complex mechanical engineering challenges, often involving novel and innovative solutions.
  • Applies advanced tools and methods to solve complex problems. Tackles technical challenges and contributes to troubleshooting effort.
  • Plans, implements, and optimizes complex solutions, leads design and development of medium-sized projects.
  • Applies domain expertise to the application and advancement of engineering methods and tools.
  • Leads the application of six sigma techniques and drives continuous process improvement.
  • Leads or participates in process redesign, defines KPIs, leads change management.
  • Acts as a team contributor with some technical leadership, provides guidance, anticipates, and prevents issues.
  • Collaborates with tooling engineers and designers to create effective tooling and molds. 

SECONDARY DUTIES:

  • Supervises and mentors junior engineers or technicians on projects.
  • Researches the latest developments and trends in mechanical engineering.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field and 4+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of both. Black Belt certification is preferred.  

COMPETENCY and/or SKILL: 

  • Proficient in the design of complex systems and identifying new technological opportunities
  • Ability to generate detailed and high-quality technical documentation
  • Ability to lead investigations into the root causes of defects and issues
  • Ability to analyze existing processes and leading process improvement efforts
  • Ability to conduct design reviews to ensure adherence to standards and best practices
  • Ability to analyze and assess complex technical risks associated with projects
  • Ability to setup, run and analyze static FEA for components and assemblies
  • Ability to design and measure the motion of a system, using kinematic quantities such as position, velocity, and acceleration
  • Comprehensive knowledge of risk management and can apply at a system level

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to level I and level II engineers.
