Materials Control Specialist
Department: Operations & Supply Chain
Employment Type: Full Time
Location: Irving, TX - Distribution Center
Reporting To: Greg Chmiel
Compensation: $24.00 - $28.00 / hour
Description
Material Control Specialist is responsible for maintaining the integrity and performance of the inventory in assigned distribution centers (DCs). To achieve this objective, you will own the following activities in your assigned DCs and local branches: 1) Receiving Administration along with Reconciliation Oversight 2) cycle account administration, reporting, and troubleshooting, 3) inventory optimization via redistribution, 4) customer return inventory evaluation, 5) special request management, 6) manufacturing order review/release 7) continuous improvement activities. This role will evolve and expand as the organization continues to grow and as the network footprint and inventory stocking methodology evolve with it. The successful candidate has the desire and ability to grow and work through network changes.
How You Will Help:
Inventory accuracy
  • Cycle Count Supervision - oversee daily execution, report on progress, implement corrective actions for discrepancies.
  • Support physical inventory counts in local branches, ASC-ES Manufacturer Representative Stocking Warehouses.
  • Review and resolve "zero picks" discrepancies between the system inventory and the physical inventory found at time of order picking.
  • Support receiving teams in resolving discrepancies.

Inventory optimization
  • Review stocked-out items for opportunities to redistribute inventory to resolve the stock-out.
  • Review excess inventory for opportunities to reduce or eliminate excess via inventory redistribution.
  • Support excess and idle scrapping programs.

Customer return evaluation
  • Evaluate proposed returns for reasonableness, avoiding returns that create excess.
  • Evaluate returned product for acceptableness (e.g., saleable condition)

Special requests
  • Manage inventory inspections as directed by the Engineering and Quality teams for quality concerns.
  • Assist Sales with inventory issues resolution (e.g., identifying alternative ways to fill urgent backorders)

Continuous improvement
  • Review existing tools processes for efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Develop new tools and processes.

Manufacturing Orders (MO's)
  • Review and Release MO's for Customer Orders (MO's for CO's)
  • Issue DO's for any MO Bill-of-Material Shortages.
  • Review and Release MO's for Build-to-Stock needs.

Additional duties as the role evolves
What You Will Bring:
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and research skills.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and ability to organize and prioritize a variety of tasks/projects.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access); ASC-ES Warehouse Management (WMS) Experience and Infor M3 experience a plus.
  • Inventory Management experience desired. Industrial Warehouse experience along with Forklift certification helpful.
