Job description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Responsible for analyzing, planning, designing, testing, implementing, maintaining, and supporting interfaces existing and new interfaces deployed to deliver the electronic medical record (EMR) to the Bryan Health community. This includes developing interface specifications and requirements, completing interface development, testing, and implementation according to best practices and standards, and ensuring data quality. Maintains an interface library with adequate detail and specification, including visio drawings of all inbound/outbound interfaces, as well as testing scripts.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

2. *Performs investigation of interface-related business and system requirements identified during the analysis phase.

3. *Communicates with team members to ensure that application functionality and workflow requirements are effectively designed, tested and deployed.

4. *Serves as a point person for assigned interfaces.

5. Coordinates analysis calls.

6. Maintains business requirements documentation.

7. *Determines impact to interface, document configuration, and build changes needed.

8. Escalates issues or roadblocks encountered during analysis.

9. Performs configuration/build changes.

10. Coordinates or assists in all testing/validation of the interface.

11. Assists with troubleshooting during integrated testing and validation.

12. *Develops interface specifications.

13. Runs error code frequency reports for multiple interfaces; investigates and analyzes the errors, cause of failure.

14. Participates in resolving failed messages and resubmits the messages before signoff.

15. *Creates mapping documents for HL7 fields and sub-fields by collecting Epic system values and values for the other systems to serve as a central reference for doing mapping among the various systems.

16. *Researches tasks (digging into Epic c0de) to resolve interface/integration issues.

17. *Reviews upgrade documentation and determines how to implement the changes.

18. *Develops interface specifications from end user requirements.

19. *Prepares individual status reports to meet project requirements.

20. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.

21. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.

22. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Knowledge of HL7 terminology and standards, ability to understand data manipulation capabilities and problem solve data mapping challenges.

2. Knowledge of network environments and related software applications.

3. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.

4. Ability to perform full interface build and lifecycle support—gap analysis, requirements documentation, detailed design, interface build, functional testing, integration testing, and go-live support

5. Ability to work with key interface formats (HL7, XML, Flat File), protocols (TCP/IP, FTP) and HL7 messages (ADT, ORM, ORU, DFT, MDM, SIU, RDE, MFN)

6. Ability to demonstrate complex problem-solving and high-level critical thinking skills

7. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

8. Ability to adapt and effectively perform work functions in high stress situations.

9. Ability to organize, prioritize, multitask and efficiently complete work assignments.

10. Ability to work as a team member.

11. Ability to effectively interact with clients having a broad range of computer knowledge and ability.

12. Ability to analyze problems, identify needs and priorities and implement effective work strategies.

13. Ability to problem solve and engage independent critical thinking skills.

14. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.

15. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.

16. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration or Health Information Management, or approved equivalent combination of education and experience. Three (3) years of additional related experience may be substituted in lieu of education requirement. Four (4) or more years professional healthcare/hospital experience with developing and supporting interfaces utilizing HL7 to integrate multiple systems. OpenLink and/or Ensemble interface engine experience and/or certification preferred.

OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:

If part of the Epic implementation team, Epic certification required within four months of hire.
