OverviewSystem One is seeking a highly experienced Construction Oversight Engineer to support a cutting-edge advanced nuclear energy project in Kemmerer, Wyoming. This role will support regulatory construction oversight activities related to nuclear plant construction and will play a key role in ensuring compliance with NRC regulations, codes, standards, and inspection requirements for a first-of-a-kind reactor design.
This position requires a strong background with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), including qualified reactor inspection experience, along with the ability to work independently in a dynamic construction environment.
Responsibilities- Develop and implement procedures for regulatory oversight of nuclear plant construction activities
- Perform technical inspections and oversight of construction activities for advanced nuclear reactor projects
- Leverage extensive knowledge of NRC regulations, inspection procedures, and nuclear industry standards
- Identify issues of concern independently and communicate findings proactively to management
- Recommend regulatory paths forward and support resolution of complex compliance-related issues
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, contractors, and project leadership to support successful project execution
- Support oversight activities in active construction environments while maintaining a strong safety and quality focus
Required Qualifications- 18+ years of experience with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC)
- Prior experience as a qualified NRC reactor inspector
- Strong knowledge of nuclear regulations, codes, standards, and regulatory guidance
- Ability to work independently with a strong questioning attitude and analytical mindset
- Experience supporting or evaluating nuclear construction activities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to communicate technical and regulatory concerns clearly across diverse audiences
- Strong teamwork, professionalism, integrity, and collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, or related technical discipline
- Experience supporting advanced reactor or first-of-a-kind nuclear technologies
Physical & Work Environment Requirements- Primary work environment is an active construction site
- Ability to walk, climb, stand, and work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds safely
- Extended periods of walking, climbing, sitting, and computer-based work may be required
- Travel up to 75%
