Deaf Services Advocate
Direct Hire | Full-Time
Salary: $41,600 – $49,920 Annually
Position Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Deaf Services Advocate to provide direct services, advocacy, outreach, training, and case management support to individuals who are d/Deaf, DeafBlind, hard of hearing, DeafDisabled, and late-deafened. This role supports consumers through various programs and funding sources, including Department of Rehabilitation (DOR), Regional Center, CalAIM, independent living services, housing-related programs, and other fee-for-service initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Consumer Advocacy & Case Management
Maintain a caseload of approximately 30 active consumers.
Provide advocacy, peer support, independent living skills training, housing assistance, employment support, benefits navigation, and resource coordination.
Assist consumers in accessing community resources, public benefits, healthcare services, transportation, housing programs, and other support systems.
Provide self-advocacy guidance and referrals to legal resources as needed.
Develop individualized service plans based on consumer goals and needs.
Program Coordination & Documentation
Coordinate services authorized through DOR, Regional Centers, CalAIM, and other programs.
Track authorizations, complete required reporting, and maintain accurate records.
Ensure timely and confidential documentation in compliance with HIPAA and funding requirements.
Maintain accurate data entry, case notes, and consumer files.
Community Outreach & Education
Conduct outreach activities to increase awareness of available services within the d/Deaf community.
Deliver individual and group trainings, presentations, and workshops on topics including:
Independent living
Employment readiness
Housing resources
Accessibility
Self-advocacy
Tenant rights
Community Partnerships
Establish and maintain relationships with employers, housing providers, government agencies, shelters, and community organizations.
Collaborate with service providers to increase opportunities and accessibility for d/Deaf individuals.
Provide in-person services and collaborate with community partners as needed.
Team Support
Adhere to established office hours and maintain a professional presence.
Support organizational priorities and take on additional responsibilities as needed.
Demonstrate flexibility, professionalism, and teamwork in a fast-paced environment.
Required
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and strong knowledge of Deaf culture.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Minimum of two years of experience working with individuals who are d/Deaf or in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Strong computer skills and proficiency with case documentation and data entry.
Excellent organizational, communication, multitasking, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively while managing multiple priorities.
Valid California Driver's License (or state ID) and reliable transportation.
