Position Summary

The Director of Finance is primarily responsible for overseeing all aspects of the financial agreements, including developing, coordinating, and supervising the accounting procedures related to the operation of the facilities. Including but not limited to maintaining formal accounting systems, supervising the organization of accounting records, supervising the preparation of monthly financial statements and event settlements, and preparing and managing the yearly budget.

This position is on-site at the Saenger Theatre and/or Regions Arena or Mobile Convention Center. Standard business hours apply, with occasional flexibility required to support events, including mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed. Must maintain regular attendance and a professional presence.

This role pays an annual salary of $100,000-$120,000 and is bonus eligible.

About the Venue

This OVG managed property includes the Mobile Convention Center, Regions Arena, and Saenger Theatre. The Arthur R. Outlaw Mobile Convention Center is a spectacular facility providing excellent meeting accommodations. It features 317,000 gross sq. ft., including a 100,000 sq. ft. exhibit hall, and a unique design with terraces for outdoor functions and breathtaking views of the Mobile River.

The Saenger Theatre seats 1,900 patrons and hosts over 70,000 guests annually. It is the home of the Mobile Symphony Orchestra and Lagniappe's annual Nappie Awards and has hosted national acts such as The Avett Brothers, Willie Nelson, Chicago, The Black Jacket Symphony, Vince Gill, Bob Dylan, and more. 

The Regions Arena will anchor a lively downtown Mobile, Alabama, a city that offers world-class accommodations, retail shops, restaurants, museums, parks, and art galleries. The state-of-the-art, 10,000-capacity arena is under construction and scheduled to open in early 2027. It will be home to a minor league hockey team, concerts, family shows, regional and national sports events, community gatherings, and annual Mardi Gras events. It will include a wide range of premium seating and experiences, including suites, clubs, and loge boxes, and include over 27,000 square feet of multi-purpose and pre-event space. 

Responsibilities
  • Manages and participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities of assigned programs and functions, including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivables, purchasing, budgeting and the general ledger
  • Manages and participates in the development and administration of the convention center's annual budget; direct and provide consultation to department managers in the forecast of additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; direct the monitoring of and approve expenditures; implement budgetary adjustments as necessary
  • Prepares financial statements for the Client and OVG Corporate Office, and other financial reports, including monthly statements, annual budget and annual report
  • Coordinates the accounting activities of the facility in relation to the annual audit; serve as liaison for the Accounting Section with other departments, division and outside auditors; negotiate and resolve significant and controversial issues
  • Analyzes balance sheet and P&L figures for monthly financial statements; prepares comments and explanations of performance trends
  • Reviews and executes all checks and deposits; reviews daily cash receipts and disbursements
  • Reviews financial statements with management personnel
  • Plans, develops and recommends procedures to ensure the financial management of the facility is in line with corporate goals and objectives
  • Selects, trains, motivates and evaluates Accounting Department staff; provides or coordinates staff trainings; works with employees to correct deficiencies
  • Plans, directs, coordinates, and reviews the workflow for the Finance Department; meets with staff on a regular basis to identify and resolve challenges; assigns work activities, projects and programs; monitors workflow; reviews and evaluates methods and procedures
  • Monitors compliance with all provisions of the management contract
  • Assist with show settlement including payments to promoters; compile all post-show financial info to enter GL; prepare show income/loss reports
  • Prepare appropriate state and local tax returns to be filed timely
  • Works cooperatively with other department directors on projects of mutual interest
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, contractors and facility users
  • Occasionally functions as Manager on Duty
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • 5-7 years of professional accounting experience, including at least three (3) years of supervisory responsibility.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting, finance, public or business administration or a related field. Additional experience may be substituted for formal education.
  • Experience with NetSuite and Oracle preferred.
  • Previous Arena/Hotel/Convention Center accounting experience preferred.
  • Certified Public Accountant preferred.
