Volunteer Coordinator

Department: Volunteer Engagement

Reports to: Global Health Safety Manager

FLSA/Status: Exempt / Full Time

Engineers Without Borders USA (EWB-USA) is a nonprofit humanitarian organization working to close the infrastructure gap, both globally and in the United States. We partner with communities to deliver infrastructure projects that reflect their own priorities and goals. We mobilize thousands of volunteers every year to respond to underserved and overburdened communities' engineering needs. 

Join Our Team

This is an exciting opportunity to join EWB-USA and contribute to meaningful impact! The Volunteer Coordinator supports EWB-USA’s programs by coordinating volunteer recruitment, onboarding, communications, and engagement initiatives across multiple programs. This position works closely with staff, volunteers, and partner organizations to ensure volunteers are supported throughout their engagement.

Support the successful delivery of EWB-USA’s volunteer engagement and operations by coordinating initiatives that enhance the volunteer experience and strengthen chapter engagement. The coordinator plays a key role in the implementation of the fellowship program, supporting volunteer events and communications, and providing operational support across multiple programs. This role contributes to creating a positive and rewarding volunteer experience while helping EWB-USA expand the reach and impact of its programs. This role may also support other departments, including Programs, Systems, Finance, and Fundraising.

Responsibilities / Tasks

Volunteer Engagement Responsibilities

  • Support the newly established fellowship program that prepares emerging engineers and practitioners for responsible humanitarian work by embedding them in a medium-term placement with a local NGO partner

  • Support volunteer engagement initiatives that improve the volunteer experience and retention

  • Support volunteer communications needs

  • Lead the analysis of the annual volunteer experience survey and report

  • Coordinate bi-annual chapter calls 

  • Support EWB-USA national and regional conferences

Programs Responsibilities

  • Assist with international community program coordination activities, including tracking project engagement, maintaining records within volunteer management systems, and supporting cross-program collaboration.

  • Provide general project and volunteer support across programs, including responding to volunteer inquiries, assisting with staff requests, and helping volunteers navigate participation opportunities.

  • Support the Impact Fund process.

  • Coordinate new project matching process.

  • Coordinate passenger flight assistance for volunteers in support of program implementation through external partner..

  • Coordinate program resource updates and development for volunteers.

  • Participate in internal meetings and administrative activities, including staff meetings, program coordination meetings, and other operational responsibilities.

  • Collaborate with staff across departments and partner organizations to ensure volunteers and projects are supported and aligned with EWB-USA’s mission.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience working with volunteers, community organizations, non-profits, or volunteer-led teams.

  • Proficiency in Google Workspace or Microsoft Office.

Desired Skills and Attributes

  • At least 2–3 years of experience in volunteer coordination, nonprofit program coordination, or related roles.

  • Experience with Salesforce or volunteer management platforms.

  • Experience working with volunteer chapters or member-based organizations.

  • Experience coordinating volunteer orientations, trainings, or informational sessions.

  • Familiarity with infrastructure, engineering, or community development programs.

  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and interpersonal skills.

  • EWB-USA volunteer experience.

  • Passion for EWB-USA’s mission and vision.

  • EWB-USA staff members must be able to represent the program to all stakeholders. They must possess the skills of initiative, teamwork, organizing and planning, problem-solving and decision-making, service to members, and self-reliance.

  • Spanish speaking preferred

Location

EWB-USA's head office is in Denver, CO. Remote working locations can be flexible; however, remote candidates located in California, Washington, New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Minnesota will not be considered. Occasional travel to Denver will be required as necessary. Preference for Colorado-based residents.

Compensation Benefits

Hiring Range: $60,000-$65,000 depending on experience and level of expertise

Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Continually required to sit or stand at the computer for extended periods.

  • Frequently required to participate in virtual meetings and presentations.

  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.

  • Travel requirements: up to 10-15% travel may be required, both in the US and internationally.
