Job description

FMS Aerospace, a wholly owned subsidiary of Bridger Aerospace, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced, full-time Accounting Manager to help lead and scale our finance operations in support of critical aerospace and defense programs.

This is a high-visibility role for an accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced Government Contracting (GovCon) environment and wants to make a measurable impact across the organization. Reporting directly to the CFO, the Accounting Manager will serve as a key operational and strategic partner supporting accounting operations, program execution, compliance, and financial performance.

The ideal candidate brings deep GovCon accounting expertise, advanced Unanet knowledge, and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally with Contracts, Program Management, Procurement, and Executive Leadership.


Responsibilities

Lead Core Accounting Operations

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting activities including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, payroll-related accounting, reconciliations, and general ledger management.
  • Support timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Prepare, review, and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting workpapers.
  • Assist with financial statement preparation and management reporting.
  • Act as an internal SME for Unanet ERP, ensuring integrity of project accounting, labor charging, indirect allocations, billing, and financial reporting.
  • Support Unanet optimization, process improvements, and cross-functional user support.
  • Experience with Unanet Purchasing and AIM (Inventory) modules is highly valued.

Support Aerospace & Defense Program Execution

  • Partner closely with Contracts, Program Management, and Procurement to ensure accurate project setup, funding alignment, CLIN/SLIN structure management, and contract compliance.
  • Assist Business Development teams with pricing support, proposal preparation, and cost volume reviews for government solicitations.
  • Help ensure accurate revenue recognition and project cost tracking across fixed-price, T&M, and cost-reimbursable contracts.

Ensure Compliance & Internal Controls

  • Maintain compliance with DCAA, FAR, and contract requirements.
  • Support internal controls, audit readiness, and SOX-related processes.
  • Collaborate with leadership on process improvements, risk mitigation, and operational scalability.
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting and analysis.

Partner with Leadership

  • Work directly with the CFO to provide actionable financial insights and operational support.
  • Contribute to strategic initiatives, budgeting, forecasting, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Help drive a culture of accountability, collaboration, and operational excellence.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience within the GovCon industry.
  • Strong working knowledge of DCAA compliance, FAR regulations, and project-based accounting.
  • Advanced experience with Unanet ERP/accounting systems.
  • Experience managing month-end close processes and financial reporting.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate financial information for operational teams and executives.
  • Ability to work on-site in Huntsville, Alabama with hybrid flexibility.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work proficiently with remotely located employees
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Must currently possess or be able to receive Department of Defense Secret clearance
