Overview
Responsible for identifying, analyzing, and implementing quality and performance improvement initiatives that enhance patient safety, reduce waste, improve process reliability, and increase operational efficiency. Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams across Memorial Health to apply Lean Six Sigma methodologies, facilitate change, and sustain measurable improvements in clinical and operational outcomes.
As a Performance Improvement Consultant I, this role operates under the direct supervision and mentorship of a certified Black Belt. This role typically focuses on department or unit-level projects of moderate scope, applying Lean Six Sigma tools within a defined area to drive localized performance improvement.

Qualifications
Education:
• Bachelor's degree in Business, Management Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Organizational Behavior, Healthcare Management or related field required.
• In lieu of Bachelor's degree, 3 years related experience will be considered.
Licensure/Certification/Registry:
• American Society of Quality (ASQ) Six Sigma Yellow Belt certification required within 6 months of hire (ASQ Yellow Belt required as a prerequisite if not currently eligible for Green Belt certification)
• Once achieved, Yellow/Green Belt certification must be maintained through the ASQ recertification process.
Experience:
• 0-2 years of on-the-job experience in one or more areas of the American Society of Quality (ASQ) Body of Knowledge preferred (Six Sigma, Lean Principles, Project Management).
• Experience leading small to mid-scale projects directed at improving health outcomes, patient safety, and productivity management.
• Experience with healthcare regulatory standards (e.g. Joint Commission, IDPH) or the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Health Care criteria desired.
Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• Ability to perform complex data analysis, draw conclusions, and convey recommendations to all levels of the organization through written reports and group presentations.
• Ability to work collaboratively under the direction of a Black Belt, while progressively building autonomy.
• Strong analytical, planning, and organizational skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, QI Macros/Minitab, and simulation software
• Familiarity with clinical workflows, EHRs, and healthcare data sources
• Ability to work in a team environment and to promote cooperation, collaboration, and high performance within and across disciplines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
• Ability to work independently and to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
Strategic Quality and Performance Improvement
  1. Lead and sustain departmental or unit-level improvement projects under direct supervision of a Black Belt.
  2. Apply Six Sigma methods to reduce variation, increase efficiency, and elevate care delivery standards.
  3. Support Black Belts and Master Black Belts in large, cross-functional projects and contribute to system-level improvement initiatives.

Data Analysis and Risk Assessment
  1. Develop data collection plans and perform analysis to support improvement projects.
  2. Conduct risk assessments and contribute to FMEAs under Black Belt supervision.

Metrics and Reporting
  1. Track and report on project progress, KPIs, and outcomes within assigned scope.
  2. Escalate barriers and risks to Quality Leadership.

Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration
  1. Engage with unit and departmental-level stakeholders to identify and implement improvements.
  2. Serve as a liaison between frontline teams and Quality Leadership on broader initiatives.
  3. Collaborate with the Quality Improvement Manager and Director to scope quality improvement opportunities aligned with system goals.

Training, Mentorship, and Education
  1. Educate colleagues on basic Lean Six Sigma concepts, tools, and techniques.
  2. Actively participate in mentoring from Black Belts and Master Black Belts to further develop skills.
  3. Design and deliver Lean Six Sigma education throughout the health system.

Professional Development and Community Engagement
  1. Maintain professional growth through continuing education, seminars, workshops, and ASQ certification requirements.
  2. Participate in networking and community outreach that supports Memorial Health's mission.
