Description:

Position Summary

The Integrated Behavioral Health Clinician (BHC) is an embedded member of the interdisciplinary primary care team who provides brief assessment, consultation, evidence-based interventions, and care coordination to improve the behavioral, physical, and social health of patients across the lifespan. The BHC works collaboratively with primary care clinicians to deliver accessible, population-based behavioral health services using a whole-person, team-based model of care.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provide on-demand in-person integrated care consults to a diverse patient population in a fast-paced health center setting in collaboration with medical care team. Population can include pediatrics, family practice, geriatrics and/or prenatal patients. Consults provided from a biopsychosocial-spiritual framework. Services include screenings, support, brief interventions, and referrals as deemed appropriate.
  2. Provide psychoeducational information as appropriate for patients and/or family members or accompanying caregivers
  3. Contribute to the growth of the behavioral health department at NHC
  4. Develop and maintain familiarity with related psychopharmacology
  5. Develop and maintain familiarity with behavioral components of physician health diagnosis (e.g., diabetes, hypertension, obesity, tobacco use, insomnia, chronic pain, medication adherence)
  6. Collaborate alongside behavioral health team to ensure holistic health care and support of medical team
  7. Provide training to staff as needed
  8. Remain current and knowledgeable about local and regional resources for mental health and substance abuse treatment, developing collaborative relationships where possible
  9. Participate in outreach educational activities in the community as needed
  10. Maintain a regular schedule and caseload at assigned clinic in collaboration with treatment team
  11. Participate in quality improvement projects as assigned
  12. Participate in all meetings and trainings as assigned
  13. Utilize validated behavioral health screening and outcome measures (PHQ-9, GAD-7, PROMIS, PCL-5, etc.) to inform treatment planning, monitor patient progress, and support quality improvement initiatives

Compliance and Documentation

  1. Thoroughly, accurately, and promptly document all services rendered in the electronic medical record for every patient.
  2. Be knowledgeable of and in compliance with CLIA, OSHA, HIPAA, and HRSA regulations for safety, infection control, equipment operation, confidentiality, and other applicable areas (e.g., patient identification and standard precautions).
  3. Participate in proficiency testing as required by NHC or departmental policy to ensure that proper standards of care are being maintained.

  9. Ability to serve as an advocate for individuals of all ethnicities, genders, ages, and backgrounds.
  10. Commitment to trauma-informed, culturally responsive, equitable care for historically underserved and medically vulnerable populations
  11. Ability to use a computer in a Windows environment and proficient in MS Word, Outlook, Excel, Internet tools with keyboarding skills of 45 wpm.

Required Knowledge, Experience, or Licensure/Registration

  1. Master’s Degree or PhD/PsyD in related Behavioral Health Field.
  2. Current North Carolina clinical licensure required (LCSWA, LCMHCA, or equivalent accepted at the associate level); clinical supervision toward full independent licensure may be provided on-site.
  3. Current CPR Certification.
  4. Ability to work onsite Mondays through Fridays from 7:45 am to 5 pm;
  5. For the occasional remote work, the ability to work remotely with secure Internet connection.
  6. Bilingual ability preferred.
  7. Experience in integrated care setting preferred.
  8. Knowledge of evidence-based behavioral health practices and crisis assessment protocols, with the ability to identify risk and intervene appropriately in a fast-paced integrated care setting.
