What is a from home EHS job?

'From Home EHS' jobs refer to Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) roles that can be performed remotely. These positions typically involve tasks like developing safety protocols, conducting virtual compliance audits, creating training materials, and ensuring companies meet environmental and occupational health regulations. Remote EHS professionals often collaborate with on-site teams through digital tools, helping organizations maintain safe and compliant workplaces without being physically present. This work-from-home model has become increasingly popular as technology enables remote monitoring and communication.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a from home EHS specialist?

To thrive as a Work-from-Home EHS Specialist, you need a strong background in environmental regulations, occupational health, and safety standards, typically supported by a degree in environmental science or a related field. Familiarity with EHS management systems, compliance tracking software, and certifications such as OSHA or NEBOSH are typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and self-motivation are essential soft skills for remote collaboration and efficient issue resolution. These skills ensure effective management of EHS programs, regulatory compliance, and a safe work environment even from a remote setting.

What are common challenges faced by EHS professionals working from home, and how can they overcome them?

EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety) professionals who work from home often face the challenge of staying connected to on-site operations and maintaining effective communication with teams. Remote work can make it harder to conduct physical inspections, ensure compliance, and respond rapidly to incidents. To overcome these hurdles, many professionals utilize virtual inspection tools, regularly schedule video calls with site teams, and leverage digital platforms to track compliance and training. Building strong relationships with on-site staff and establishing clear communication protocols are also key to success in a remote EHS role.

What this job involves:
We are seeking an EHS Manager for our Work Dynamics business to join one of JLL's key global accounts. As a senior member of the JLL Americas EHS team, you will be responsible for implementing and managing EHS programs across multiple account locations. This highly visible role operates in a fast-paced environment focused on ensuring critical stakeholders receive timely, relevant information and appropriate counsel for EHS matters. You'll serve as a trusted advisor and strategic partner, fostering a Culture of Safety while managing regulatory compliance and driving continuous improvement across a complex, multi-site portfolio.
What your day-to-day will look like:
  • Implement Global Work Dynamics EHS strategic objectives and ensure effective operational relevance within the area of responsibility, managing and reducing operational risks by providing guidance and advice on EHS risk management at all levels while providing technical advice on relevant EHS issues and communicating notifications of changes in legislation that will impact service delivery and client occupancy
  • Complete and maintain Hazard/PPE Assessments for all account locations, create and maintain a regulatory compliance register for each location, and ensure building-related risk assessments are in place in line with legal requirements and Client Global Risk Control Standards while identifying improvement opportunities and supporting the account team in identifying practical, cost-effective solutions and controls for EHS risks
  • Develop the account training matrix, manage and assign online training requirements, and provide training and presentations as needed on specific topics applicable to account employees while ensuring that accidents, injuries, near misses, good catches, and other events are captured and the data is managed and reported
  • Manage the OSHA 301/300 recordkeeping requirements for the account and serve as the Account's Administrator for the JLL AIMS (Accident & Incident Management System), ensuring accurate and timely compliance documentation
  • Foster a Culture of Safety across the Account by leading, managing, and developing the Account EHS teams, maintaining an appropriate structure to ensure operational EHS management, and proactively developing and managing client relationships to ensure expected service levels are achieved and delivering exceptional quality of service as reflected by client feedback
  • Participate with operating sites as needed to lead or support investigations of EHS events, perform analysis of root cause(s), support and track the implementation of effective corrective actions, and prepare communications to share lessons learned across account operations
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of JLL Regional EHS operational controls including processes, standards, procedures, and guidelines, ensuring compliance with EHS obligations and JLL's EHS aspirations while assisting in the assurance of compliance with all EHS Sections of the Operational Compliance Program (OCP)
  • Implement EHS strategy and operating protocols for the safety performance of JLL's contractors and supply chain vendors, ensuring third-party vendors maintain compliance with JLL Work Dynamics and account EHS Standards at all times while supporting environmental compliance efforts as specified in the JLL/client Master Service Agreement (MSA)/Statement of Work (SOW).

Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum 8 years' experience developing, implementing, and managing EHS programs with demonstrated success in operational environments
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in safety management, industrial hygiene, environmental science, or relevant field (degree may be waived if you have more than 7 years' experience or hold EHS professional certification)
  • Strong track record of EHS management experience within Operational Management systems and working with corporate clients across multiple locations
  • Experience managing EHS for multiple sites across multiple countries with a strong understanding of the EHS regulatory environment in major markets
  • Appropriate recognized professional EHS qualifications and memberships demonstrating commitment to professional development
  • Proven record of success with project management skills for balancing multi-site activities and managing competing priorities
